View Full Version : My tax stamp came today

well it is finally here my form 1 with a $200.00 stamp.
they cashed the check about 20 May and I got the form back today 21 August. I used only the Double Star info and ser #. No trust or name with city & state. so this way if some day I wish to apply to have it reurned to a non sbr no one would ever know.
I hope to have it finished before December as long as nothing else goes wrong.:p

What only 3 months!!! it seemed like forever.

well before I ran up a big tab at the local medical center I was planning on a CMMG 11.5" with a VLTOR reciever and there krink flash hider.
but it will be for sure a 11.5" with a flat top reciever.

waiting 6 weeks for my hcp seemed like forever....i cant imagine what 3 months was like!

Have you called to see if an examiner has been assigned to your case yet? They told me that they would most likely have answer for me on that one right around the 8wk mark. :)

No I made myself a promise that I would not call until after Labor day, but I am planning on calling Tuesday. :)

my form for my suppressor took just about 2 months. i sent it out the beginning of june and i got the call to pick it up around the middle of august. Just when i started not thinking about the wait anymore i got the phone call :koolaid:

Just as a heads up, and it will probably never get questioned, but by law, you as the manufacturer are required to mark the lower; Whether you listed the info on the form 1 or not. I made several phone calls and wrote a letter(which still, after a year hasn't been responded to). The answer to "Do I have to mark my SBR lower?" was a uniform "YES" They directed me to the section that states it must be marked, if I dig it up I'll post it.

well I thought the BATF was the law controlling the SBR's (if legal in your state) and they approved it.

They approved it and in fact you become the manufacturer once you configure it as a SBR, thus requiring you to engrave it as such. Dancing around Federal Law is no place anybody should dance.

Think about this - any and all manufacturers engrave suppressors, machine guns, SBR's, blah, blah, blah... Why would you be exempt? Think about it, what was the paperwork you filled out? Considering your public exposure it is far more than "stirring the pot" there's a good list with the ATF and a bad list with the DOJ.

Also, this where I take issue with the recomendation of trophy shops doing engraving - there are given guide lines to what is required. Trophy shops typically if not only engrave soft brass plates and they are not equiped to do the same on hardened aluminium or steel.

well i am not stirring the plot, NBForest is doing that :stir:. i did your form1 and thats what a got back approved by the BATF. check the post in engraving the sbr and see what hero gear says.
the bottom line is not what the forums say, it is what BATF says and they said i am good to build. :cop:

As long as your engraver is able to achieve the mandated minimum depth of engraving into the material, you are fine. I have yet to find a trophy shop who said that they couldn't engrave an aluminum receiver. Many told me that they routinely engrave stainless and sterling steel odds and ends for customers with no problems. If their gear will handle those harder materials, they won't have problems with an aluminum AR-15 lower.

That being said, I think Orion still has the nicest engravings and they certainly meet the minimum specs.

Unfortunately my experience was bad. I should've taken pictures as it would've a good example. At the very least steer clear of the trophy shop in White House.
