Has anybody shot these revolvers from Ruger? If so how accurate are these?I have never shot blackpowder before and I am kind of interested. Also is there any good books out there that you would suggest reading that would cover everything I would need to know about loading and shooting blackpowder? Thanks in advance.

I've not shot the Rugers, but I know that they are highly regarded and respected by those who have them.

As to books, there are actually quite a few on the subject. When I got started, I read the books by Sam Fadala. He has several books entitled 'Black Powder Loading Manual' and 'Black Powder Handbook', including updated versions. You can usually get them at Barnes & Nobles Bookstores.

Yep, they're great BP revolvers.

And they've also been discontinued.

But don't worry... Ruger has been making them since Moses was in diapers, so finding one shouldn't prove too difficult.

I have never seen one in person but I know my other Ruger revolvers are top shelf stuff and I would have figured that the ROA was of the same kind of quality, fit and finish.

Jamie I wish you would change your avitar, seeing that white steel '58 makes me want to strip mine down and I am not sure I want to do that. Your avatar taunts me, lol.

The ruger is a .45 not a .44 like most BP so the round balls will be .457. I have a copy of a Walker that uses .457. I found the ruger to be heavy if you spend a little more you can get a Uberti that will last you forever and be a little lighter
Mark Baker wrote a book about 10 years ago that will tell you anything you want to know about BP. you can probably get a hold of him through Muzzleloader magazine.
The one thing you want to remember is to pop a cap in each cylinder before you load the gun unless you have just shot it.

LOL If it's any consolation, it's not completely white... I was going for more of an aged look, so I left it a bit dingy. I originally took it all the way down to bare metal, but didn't like the look. So I took cold blue to it, but didn't let it set for very long. A lot of buffing later, I got it down to the light blue/gray you see in the pic.
