What is the difference when it comes to mag followers? I see some that are yellow, or green or black etc.... is there a difference?

I was searching for a new magazine for my S&W .45ACP and some adds said it came with yellow followers etc... Are they different?

Some followers are designed not to tip and to always stay level to assure consistent loading.

MagPul AR followers are a good example of that. I bought 2 new mags that came with the green GI style followers, they will be switched out for the MagPuls.

So then the answer to my question is yes? How do I know which to buy? I am going to a show tomorrow and will be looking for new mags among other things and want to be prepared. Thanks for all of the help.

The color of S&W pistol mags generally denotes caliber. 9mm are usually red, .40 are usually black... Other than that, they have no real significance.

Some of the S&W 45 mags for the 45xx series are laser etched "Use only Yellow Followers" or something similar. Some of the mags have black followers and some are even orange. I can't remember the details, but there was a revision of the mag body that only works with the yellow followers.

The 40xx mags were originally yellow when introduced as 11 round capy. The 10 round mags introduced after the ban had blue followers as did the 9 round 4013TSW mags.

10xx mags come in white, black and maybe yellow. The white are the newest version I think.

It's the plastic or metal piece in the magazine that sits on top of the spring and pushes the rounds up.

They will say on the package, you should look a few manufactures up on the net. I would just order on line, might be difficult to locate in stores and will probably cost more.
