COURT MARSHALLED FOR SHOOTING INTRUDER An 80-year-old man, retired from the Special Forces, was on a trial of his peers for "failing to use a weapon of sufficient caliber" (http://bluestarchronicles.com/2008/01/26/retired-green-beret-gets-court-martial-after-shooting-intruder/) in the shooting of an intruder who broke into his home in Knoxville, TN.
OK ...let's review. The guy, Smokey Taylor, is 80. He is a retired Special Forces Weapons Sergeant with extensive combat experience during Korea and Vietnam. An intruder breaks in and threatens him with a knife. What does Smokey do?
Shoots him right between the eyes with a .22 caliber pistol. The only problem is that the bullet bounces off the intruder's head. It knocks him down and he goes crawling out the door and down the street where Knoxville police apprehend him.
So now Smokey has been brought before a trial of his peers. The charges? He should have saved the county and taxpayers the expense of a trial for this creep. You see, Smokey could have used a .45 or .38 and the intruder would have been DRT. But he was acquitted of all charges and given a round of applause.
Don't ya just love it?
