BOSTON - Mitt Romney will either suspend his presidential campaign NBC News has learned.
His withdrawal effectively cedes the Republican nomination to Sen. John McCain (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16438320/), R-Ariz.
The former Massachusetts Republican governor has been seriously trailing McCain in the delegate count since Super Tuesday and is scheduled to speaks at the Conservative Political Action Conference at 12:30 p.m. ET today in DC.
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16829386/), R-Ark., remains in the race but trails Romney in the delegate counts.
So, Mitt insured that Mccain will get the nomination, because of his delegate numbers he received, and probably is going to go for the VP position (I'm specualting here), all the while, putting a block on Huckabee so that he can't win.
Any other thoughts?

The GOP might have a chance of winning this. The Dems seem to be locked in a deathstruggle between Hillary and Obama, with the nomination to be decided in a smoke-filled back room, just like the good ole days. I predict a resurgence of Gore-fever with Hilary as VP choice.
They were reporting a "leaked" written alliance between McCain and Huckabee this morning on the news. I assume that had something to do with the suspension.
Makes some sense. A McCain/Huckabee ticket would unify the GOP, help in the south and with evangelical conservatives and give whoever wins the Dem nomination a run for the money. What scares me is that McCain is older now than Reagan was when he took office...
The best thing the Dems could do would be for one of them to back out and become the VP nominee. Thus reducing future primary spending to zero and gearing up for the general, which will probably be so nasty, it will make us long for the gentile days of "Swift Boating."
Of course, since that's the best thing the Dems could do, it will never happen. My party has a long and illustrious history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The stars are lining up that way again...
In my mind, Hilary Clinton will be more divisive to the nation that the contested 2000 election was. People love her or HATE her. She should realize this and step aside. Obama would cruise to victory and the Dems would have both chambers on the Hill and the White House. Like I said, its so good, it will NEVER happen.

I have a question. Can someone tell me why people like Rush and other conservatives were backing Romney? He used to be for killing babies. He signed the assault weapons ban in Mass into law. He said we should ban "anything dangerous to our law enforcement" (which i guess he is going to take my bowie knife as well). But he is an NRA member. Which he joined in late 2006 when he decided to run for president?
But they hate McCain who did vote to stop partial birth abortion and did vote against the assault weapons ban.
I may just be an ignorant tennessee boy, but that sh!! does not make sense to me and I would love to be enlightened because I am done with conservative radio. Especially when they started dogging Dole who I have the utmost respect for.
Personally I wanted Thompson with my second choice being Huckabee.

McCain supported the Illegal Amnesty bill also proposed by everybody's drunk uncle Ted. I just don't like McCain for his wishy washiness...

My grandma always told me those gentiles were bad news.:p
If the Dems end up in the smoke filled back room I could easily see Al Gore emerge as the nominee with Hillary as VP. In any case they seem to be flogging each other (Clinton and Obama) into an easy McCain victory. I never would have predicted that. I was sure the witch would take out Obama with no problem.
 lol... My mind must have been on my "Orthodox Jewish" previous post! Oh well, I've complained about spelling before, so I guess its time I got my comeuppance!
Who knows what could come out of a brokered convention, we could end up with Mike Gravel and Ron Paul...

The way I understand it Rush is for whoever stands the best chance to beat Hillary or Obama. I kind of follow this line of thought.
I will support McCain because polls are showing he ought to be beat Hillary and he is very close to being able to beat Obama. All the other republican candidates, according to polls, are going to get whipped.
If conservative voters stay home and don't vote republican in the general election we will definitely have a democratic president.
