Very nice site. I espescially like the posted CoF for the upcoming IDPA match. In looking over the 3-gun scores I am curious - what determines which 3-gun division you are in? Is there a site somewhere that describes the type of guns allowed for each division?

We are an "outlaw club", we have a rule book that is currently a work in progress. Basically, Open = anthing goes, Tactical = Optical rifle sight, Limited=iron sights on all guns. There are a few more rules, but that is it in a nutshell, we are trying to keep it as simple and safe as possible. If you come out to a match the provisional rule book is available to look over, when we get everything nailed down the rules will be posted on the web. If you are interested, .22 LR is allowed in all rifle divisions currently in an attempt to make playing the game affordable.

Robin is in charge of everything. He is the go to guy. Your rifle determines your class. Three[3] classes, 1 LIMITED= iron sights, 2 TACTICAL=one[1] optic on rifle, 3 OPEN=optics on all guns, no restrictions. Any rifle, pistol, shotgun can be used as long as they are safe. No .22pistols, they want knock over the steel, but rimfire rifles are ok.

You will need eye and ear protection. holster, 3 mags or 4 speedloaders, and a concealment garment (vest, shirt etc,). Most IDPA stages are shot from concealed draws. www.rangeisssafe.com (http://www.rangeisssafe.com) has links to some local clubs and the IDPA website as well, you can download the rulebook and read which I would recommend. Most local matches use 75-100 rds of ammo, bring 150 rds and you'll have plenty. Plan to have some fun, and don't worry about embarrasing yourself, all of us were newbies at some point, and we will be glad to give you whatever help you need. Also we have a "cold" range policy at the matches, that means don't show up with a loaded gun, shooters are allowed to handle their gun only under the supervision of a safety officer. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

I plan on shooting with my carry rig, (well, except for the dual magazine carrier) to simulate what I'd have to do in real life were I to need to draw. Won't make for the best times, but I figure realism is a better goal. As for eyes, ears etc... I got all that stuff.
I was gonna attend the IDPA-lite shoot that Rabbi did, but between the threat of rain and being in a temporary tight spot financially, I decided to forgo the chance of spending $70+ on gas and having it get rained out. So of course, the weather ended up being fine.
I appreciate the info; I had been looking at the site price_g put up and Cleveland looks like a good location for me to go to.

My CCW gun is an SP101...a 5 shot revolver. It would make sense for me to train/compete with a gun that I carry so I would like to use it.
Will having a 5 shot revolver put me at an inherit disadvantage in IDPA? For example...is the course a 12 shot course that would force me to drop 2 more rounds in and index them to complete a round?

Yes, you will be at a disadvantage in IDPA, however it does make sense to practice with your carry gun. I compete with a 1911 and carry a J-frame or a Glock, but I practice every couple of weeks with my carry guns. If you are shooting IDPA for practice,by all means shoot your carry gun. And yes you would have to fire all rounds required for the course of fire, not reloading and firing the two rounds you mentioned would result in a penalty in IDPA. I run into that on 18 rd. stages with my 1911, I have to reload for 1 rd.

Yes, it will severely hamper you in stages which consist of 6 round strings (most do).
I am personally eyeing the 8-shot .357mag wheelguns by Taurus and S&W, so I can foray into revolver gaming and have a good HD gun too.

Thinks guys...I was hoping that since a huge portion of folks carry S&W 42 and other 5 shot revolvers as their CC gun they would have a type of handicap in place.
Oh well...it should be fun any way. Might make it to the next match just to watch. Since I am a wheelgunner...that is the only pistol I own that isn't single action.

In dayton there is a place called "travis shooting range". I have seen quite a bit of unsafe gun handling there (I am shooting my pistol from 7 yards and the guy next to me proceeds to try to shoot from behind me at 15 yards). The place is hit or miss as far as when you can show up (sometimes he is giving classes indoors and the range closes unless you are his good friend), prices are different everytime I go, etc. It's a pain to drive the 20 minutes there just to find out he is giving a class and won't let me shoot. One day about 10 of us got turned away. His website recently went down so I don't know if he closed or not. They shoot IDPA there but I'd much rather go to Dodd and cleveland to shoot. It's frustrating, as I have been trying to get in the mode of shooting regularly and his hours are too inconsistent. Where do you shoot?

IF its like a traditional 3 gun where you shoot one target, then move to engage the next then I would need a couple of slings, and a sling mount for the Moss.On top of that I dont have any sights on the Moss right now so I would be stuck with just watching if I came out this weekend.

well, most gun transitions take place from a table, or starting with a long gun and then transitioning to a pistol.
you should get one of those 4-wheeler gun mounts...or a turret ;)

So I wouldn't have to tote around the long guns? That would make it allot easier.Letme see about freeing up tomorrow, and I might come out and give it a try, even with out a sight on the shogun. How many rounds are needed?

no idea.... I usually try and bring 100 pistol and 4 or 5 loaded rifle mags and have like 50 shotgun and some slugs.....but that's probably a bit of over kill....i haven't seen a COF for the match....and Ill be working tomorrow so I won't be out

The problem with posting COFs with 3gun is, the gamers will configure their arms to best suit a stage. In my opinon, that is not fair to the guy who is on a budget. So, it is pot luck game day.

How different are the courses set in IDPA?
Grout
10-16-2008, 08:21 AM
In IDPA you are only using one gun, your handgun.Movement is required but not for a great distance. Also the overall distance to the targets is much shorter as well.No more than 18 rds per stage with most less than that.3 mags are all you are allowed to have and concealment is usually required.Have fun.

Thanks for the plug et45! Everyone is welcome at Clevelands IDPA match, all we ask is that you put safety first and have fun. Beginners are given the help they need to enjoy the game, and oldtimers who screw up get laughed at. It is all good clean fun. We would even let retired IDPA members without a card and with illegal gear play with us. (et45) :)
We do have a safety meeting at 9:30 for new shooters, please be there for that. The schedule etc. can be found at www.rangeissafe.com (http://www.rangeissafe.com)
Robin also welcomes everyone to shoot the 3-Gun Matches
Rob is an all around great guy.Nipping at Gary's boot heels is a great charactor builder.:p

Left the old man in the dust at Oct. 3-gun! The look on his face was priceless. He takes this stuff way more serious than I do! :P

Well, I have the hicap pistol, an old Rugar P-89, but I don't have a hicap shotty. I have a few rifles to choose from, AR, HK91, HK94 (rifle but in pistol cal, can you use it?). Really not interested in shooting it the first time. I'd just like to see what is going on and get a look at the club. I used to shoot alot of IPSC up in Cincinnati but never shot a multi gun match.

Howdy, I noted on the CHR&PC's web page that on Dec 16 they are accepting applications for new members fpr 2009. How may I get an application? I'm pretty certain I have friends who are members who might sponsor me. TIA.

Gunsablazin, has not retired, but my work schedule(if you call seven days a week 10-12 hours a day a schedule!) has kept me from even firing a gun in over 3 weeks now! When I get back I may have to change my user name to gunsacreepin. I'm saving a fortune in reloading supplies, but the trade off is not so fun. I will be able to afford a heat shield for my shotgun with all this OT! (for those who missed the Nov. 3-Gun match I cooked my left hand on the barrel of gauge 12 Ouch!) that was handsablazin :) I hope to be back to the range soon, gonna have to get some practice in, there have been some different names at the top of the scores lately.

Do we need sponsers to join? The wife and I are only in the area a short time and have not met anyone yet. We would really like to join. It's a great facillity.

The application asks for 3 references, but no one has to truly "sponsor" you like some other clubs.
