Ok ladies, how do you keep a gun loaded around your children? Do you constantly wear it or do you keep it up high so it isn't in reach or what?
By the way, my son is 15 months old.
HOOOORAY for this forum!!!!! Natosha...when I carry, I keep it on me; I carry it in an "in the pants" holster. If I have to secure the gun, it goes into a gunsafe that has a digital lock, in my room. I have a four year old who is in to everything! The gun safe was one thing I was adamant on when we started owning guns.

I have worn my carry gun on me 24/7 for about two years now. When my son started being able to stand and "cruise" the furniture, I realized that I was going to have to make some changes with where my guns were kept. Before my son came along, I kept a loaded gun in every room of the house and on the headboard of my bed at night. With a small child in the house, all that had to change. I firmly believe in being able to protect myself and now even more importantly, my son. So I decided that the only way to have immediate access to a loaded gun, and know that my son can't get to it, is to have my gun on me at all times.
I think the safes are a good idea.....I have one that I keep my extra guns in.....but if someone busts in my door in the middle of the night, I'm not going to have time to get my gun out of the safe. I want it on me and ready to go at all times. So.....I sacrifice comfort for safety and security. I use my belly band at night and it's really not that uncomfortable.
I also keep my Winchester Defender .12 gauge up on a very high shelf, hidden from view, with no shell in the chamber, loaded with 00 buckshot......just in case I need a little more firepower :D
