Looking to pick up a compact/subcompact beretta 92 style offering in good shape for my primary carry. Beretta 8000/8040/8045 mini cougar. Would need to see pics, F2F preferred. Routinely travel from Johnson City to Nashville.

not yet boom, there is a used 8000 mini cougar at my local shop that i'm looking hard at, but it is pretty nicked up and a little high for the condition it is in. right now I'm looking at that, or perhaps waiting on the beretta px4 .45 subcompact which should be out in the next month+.

Really? Kewl... I didn't think that they were even delivering their full-size PX4 .45s yet. I've been lusting after one of those for a while.
As I understand, the compact PX4s don't have the rotating barrel. That's a turn-off for me.

aye, no rotating barrel for the subcompacts. The .45 isn't avail in the other flavours yet either, I'm guessing they'll all roll at the same time. At that point i'll make my decision on 9, .40. or .45 (if I havn't picked up a mini-coug by then!!)

I had read on a few other sites that the finishing on the 8000 wasn't all that great. And with it being ideal size for a carry gun, if those reviews are true, I could only imigine the looks of it after a year or so of carrying.

The Beretta Cougars are finished the same way as their 92/96 lineup... essentially blued. I don't know if the Stoeger clones are finished any differently, they look the same.
If this is the case, these guns, along with the PX4, are excellent candidates for a baked-on self-lubricating finish... (the rotating barrels have alot of sliding surface to overcome). But, durability-wise, I haven't seen any Beretta pistols which showed premature wear unless they were abused, and even then didn't rust any faster than other pistols.

I have a Stoeger Cougar LNIB in 9mm. It comes w/ box and 6 spare mags (for a total of 8). I'll let it go for $375 if you're interested. If you talk to me nicely, I'll even throw in a holster.

I appreciate the offier ghost, but now that this purchase will be my primary carry -- i'm looking for a mini. I'll update the original post because the way I wrote it doesn't make that clear.

will do boom. i've spent two nights cleaning her up and can post her side by side with a 92fs tomorrow. I like the mini cougar, and the rotating barrel is supposed to help with recoil. I plan to take her out one afternoon this week and can get a range report for ya.
I chose the mini cougar over say the compact px4 or waiting on the subcompact px4 which comes out e.o.summer because of the weight and i've never been into polymer guns that much. we'll see after i carry it for a while, heh!
will post pics later tonight or tmrw.

well, that took longer than expected! sorry boom, work has been nuts and I'm about 300 miles away from home this week (in nashville).
I think this link will work ... but its from a camera phone (all I have at the moment) ...

A lot better cougar pics here, on the beretta forum: http://www.berettaforum.net/vb/showthread.php?t=16667&highlight=mini+cougar+picture
I like the mini cougar, but dang it is heavy for a carry. i'm going to look harder at the px4 subcompact that is supposed to come out at the end of the summer. i never liked beretta's first polymer entry, the 9000. maybe their second (px4) will be more to my liking.

Nice!!! The more I look at the cougar's the more I like them. Esp the INOX version with wood grips.
I bought ghostdog's S. Cougar and it doesn't seem that heavy. The weight really doesn't bother me that much. I also have a S&W Sigma, and can ONLY slightly tell a difference in weight between the two.
