Hi!

My name is Byron and I'm from Indiana. I frequent Ingunowners and I had some questions about Tennessee so I figured I'd ask some like minded people. But first a little about me.

I am from the Northwest. I am near Lake Michigan and I work in Gary, Indiana. Yes, it is as bad as you have heard. I work in the ER in the hospital as a nurse. Although I work there I live in the country. Nothing but corn fields around me.

I am a sig nut. I've recently been getting into shooting longer ranges (300-500yards) with my Savage. I just got a new scope for it a Zeiss 6.5-20x50. That is really nice. I am new to reloading and knives also.
Savage with McMillan stock and Zeiss
Sigs

M1As

So I have a question for you guys. I want to take my wife to a nice cabin in the woods. I don't want it to be too comercialy and touristy. Any suggestions? All I have found on the internet is very touristy. The reason is 1 for a christmas present. And 2 is to get her to EVENTUALLY move down there. Of course, depending on your gun laws.:D I'll be reading about those for the days to come.

Thanks everyone!
Byron

Hello to everyone.
My name is David and I live with my wife in Belfast, TN. I am currently in college to try something new, I have been in construction for a while and I am just tired of it. I go to On Target in Murfreesboro TN and Larry's Ammo Dump in Huntsville AL to range shoot. I also have my own outside rage at my house. Has far as guns go I have: Sig P226 .40, Kimber Pro Carry II .45,
Beretta PX4 Storm .45 Sig P238 .380 also some shotguns and a couple of rifles. What can I say, I love to shoot..

I'm from Nashville, living in Madison have a wife, Tabitha and three kids; Christopher, Sarah and Emily. My first firearm was an offbrand SAA knock off that to this day I can't remember who made it but I loved it none the less. I traded it up for a TZ-75, before buying a Llama Max-I 1911 knockoff that served me well. I then traded the TZ for a Colt 1991A1 which I still miss. I sold it because at the time the wife was uncomfortable around it but that's different now. She owns a Taurus Millennium Pro 9mm and I a 9mm Ruger P95PR.
I shoot as a hobby and when I can afford range time I go to Academy for Self Protection to use their range. It's where we bought our pistols and I've always been pleased with them. We mostly keep to ourselves and as it's been pointed out recently, I am a bit suspicious so I thought I would intro myself.
I joined the forum in hopes of furthering my knowledge by reading the advice of those more in the know than I am about future reloading and the best type ammo to buy. I use search options more than I rely on new threads. Saves the hassle of looking stupid and embarrassing oneself. Thanks for having me aboard and Happy Thanksgiving.

Hello, my name is Thom and I’ve been living in southeast Tennessee for about seven years now after 20 years of living in some of the smaller cities...

Hello, my name is Thom and I’ve been living in southeast Tennessee for about seven years now after 20 years of living in some of the smaller cities and rural areas of middle and southwest Georgia. My youth, though not misguided, was spent growing up in one of those far northern states that has no appreciation for civilian possession of firearms. I did hunt growing up but the choice of hunt-legal long guns was limited based on the location where one would be hunting.

I came to Second Amendment activism and the joy of shooting sports later in life. I had a couple of those handed down family shotguns from the early days. My wife had a Charter Undercover and a Georgia Concealed Carry Permit in the early 80’s BC (before children). She had a third shift job for which she had to commute 30 miles each way in a very rural area. These firearms spent most of the next twenty years locked away until the children came into their older scouting years and it was time for the shotgun merit badge.

From there the train began to pickup speed. I had always believed the United States Constitution including The Bill of Rights should be applied and interpreted at the most basic level and language. It seemed that the Constitution and our inherent and inalienable rights were coming under more and more challenge. I joined the NRA around this period and shortly after relocated to Tennessee as part of a job transfer.

A great convergence occurred for me not long after moving here with a number of things happening in just a few months of one another. There was the sun-setting of the “Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994” (Loving known as the AWB). I purchased my first rifle of the type; modern sporting, semi-automatic, color: black. I joined a local shooting range club (needed some place to shoot that MSR), and I saw a program on television showing an IDPA match. Now I was hooked and I started bringing in my wife and children as this was becoming a family passion.

My wife and I both started out in local IDPA matches shooting CDP division but it wasn’t long before I added SSP and my wife is now putting together a match gun for the ESP division. My daughter is outstanding with the MSR. I need to convince her to try high power competition.

My son started in IDPA in the SSR division and added SSP as well. For him this whole adventure became a life impactor. Out of school he started his new career in banking. He’s good with numbers and really enjoyed customer interaction but something was lacking. He needed a little more adventure, a little more physicality, and he took an opportunity to move to an allied industry, armored security. His interest was in firearms training and within two years he became an NRA certified LE instructor. This, along with taking additional state and company classes he became the firearms instructor at his branch location for one of the major armored transport companies.

With all of this new experience we each got our Tennessee HCPs including each of the children when they came of age.

I began including Second Amendment advocacy to help protect our now extensive interest in firearms and took out life memberships in several advocacy organizations including upgrading my NRA membership to Life. The Internet with blogs and forums became part of this activity as well. Communications with all my legislative representatives from the local level all the way to national has become a regular occurrence with frequent emails, faxes, the occasional phone call, and even a couple overnight letters on issues important to me. I don’t try to be a single issue voter but the Second Amendment and its protection has become the crucial litmus test for me in measuring my legislators. When they don’t support the Second Amendment in the manner which I do they rarely pass muster on any other issue of concern.

I guess you could now say I am fully immersed in firearms issues and sport shooting. Oh yes, I started shooting 3-Gun competition last year. With all the matches we shoot I naturally had to start reloading. The Lee Anniversary single-stage didn’t run long before a Dillon XL-650 sat next to it on the work bench. Got that just in time not to have any reloading supplies to run through it. A chronograph is probably the next gadget on the list to acquire and a second gun safe. It’s a struggle to get the door closed on the first safe now.

The family and I tried another ballistically challenging activity during this same time period. We really enjoyed the outings but golf just doesn’t seem to provide the same satisfactions. At the shooting range or in a match I might have to work on my trigger control but I’ll never have to worry about hooking or slicing a shot, and Lord knows I’ll never shank a bullet, except maybe in a reloading press.

Hello from Mc Donald. I am new to this site and just within the last 4-5 months have learned to shoot and completed all requirements for my carry permit. How long does it take to get your permit back-it has been 8 weeks now. I have heard there is a # you can call that might speed up the process. Does anyone know that # or is that even true? Since I have gotten the bug for guns, I have purchased a Ruger LCR LG 38 special and also a Sig Mosquito. Since I have never shot a gun before the purchase of these two, I really have nothing to compare them with but I really like them especially the Mosquito. I am wanting to purchase a smaller gun to carry in my pocket or bike bag, any recommendations.

I am a Registered Nurse by profession. Besides the guns, I like to bike which is one of the reasons I decided to get a carry permit. Have enjoyed reading the forums and some of the info received there. Thanks in advance for your comments and advise.

I apologize if I wanted to find out information about guns from the experts on this site. i was actually under the impression that that's what this site was about. I now have basically been called a liar by the mod :screwy: stating that "he knows what I'm doing" by asking these questions i am trying to beat the benefactor system and trying to sell guns without paying. For the record before he bans me...THAT IS NOT THE CASE< I HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO SELL ANYONE ON THIS THREAD ANY GUN. I AM NEW AND AM INTERESTED IN THE GUNS IN QUESTION BECAUSE I WANT TO SELL THEM ELSEWHERE. IF I DECIDE TO USE THIS THREAD AS A SALES TOOL I WILL GLADLY PAY THE FEES....UNTIL THEN I AM LEARNING AND I APPRECIATE THE GREAT ADVICE AND INFO THE PROS HAVE GIVEN ME...So, he'll probably boot me for wrong reasons..if so thanks again.

Helllo,

Another new guy here.

I've owned a .38 that was my dad's. Never really used it in any way. I did some time in the Army. Got out and got called back in 2006 to go to Iraq. Spent a year on LSA Anaconda laying fiber optic cable.

I've been looking for an LCP for a while, mostly around Clarksville. Allen's has a 35 person waiting list.

I went to a two day class in the 'boro this week for work. I ripped the gun shop page out of the phone book and started calling all the shops listed during lunch on the second day of the class. With no luck, as expected, I got down to the end, Specialty Arms II in LaVergne.

They have 7 in stock. I asked if they could hold one for me. They said sure. (to my surprise.)

So I went to their shop after class. I was impressed. They showed me the LCP and I said I'd take it. I asked if they had the Crimson Trace Laser for it, and they said they did. I asked if they'd put it on for me, again, they said sure, no problem.

While the laser sight was being put on I saw a Mossberg 500 Cruiser.

I got that too, and ammo for both guns.

They were very nice to deal with and professional.

I'll be getting my permit soon.

Hello everyone,
I am from Japan working in US with appropriate working visa (not green card).
Several years ago when I tried to purchase a shotgun, I was decline since I was not a citizen, which I perfectly understand.
Since then, I have been hunting using bow and muzzleloader chasing the white tail deer. However, more I enjoy the outdoor activity, my desire to own a hunting rifle grew.
I have a question regarding purchasing and owning a firearm in TN.
I know I cannot purchase one my self, but can my friend purchase (I pay) one and give it to me? Will this consider illegal?
Other idea I have is to purchase a muzzleloader that has an interchangeable barrel. (such as TC Encore or CVA Apex) It seems the rifle barrel can be purchased online without any special paperwork. Can owning a rifle in this way be consider illegal for non-citizen like me?
I will never want to break a law, I just want to know if there is any way possible within the rule.
Sorry for the long post. I appreciate any comments.
Thank you very much.:p

I've been shooting since I was about 10 years old (started with a BB gun), and now I enjoy shotgun (skeet) and pistol shooting. Right now I have an older Browning BPS (still works great) and a Springfield XD 9mm service model.
