Well, it looks like the two democratic candidates are trying to con the gun owners into believing that either of them care about gun rights.

A state inspector ruled this week that the new guns-in-bars law does not create an unsafe environment for servers at establishments that choose not to prohibit firearms.

A server at Jackson’s Bar and Bistro in Nashville filed a complaint last month with the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health administration alleging that the mixture of guns and bars created a hazardous workplace.
PORT ARTHUR, Texas - A Port Arthur man pleaded guilty to federal gun charges Thursday after police say they caught him with a jammed gun loaded with the incorrect ammunition.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, on May 31, police responded to the 4100 block of Lewis Drive in Port Arthur where they were told a man had a gun.
Upon arrival, police found Rondell Ramon Malveaux, 19, who attempted to flee, leading police on a chase before Malveaux was finally apprehended, according to the release. When he was arrested, he was found with a jammed pistol which had been loaded with an incorrect caliber of ammunition, according to the release.
Further investigation revealed that at the time of his arrest, Malveaux was under indictment for possession of a controlled substance. He now faces up to five years in prison on a charge of receiving a firearm while under indictment.
The case was prosecuted as part of Operation Time Machine, aimed at reducing gun and gang violence.

In a trial before Federal Judge Sam Sparks, government lawyers conceded Texas resident Paul Copeland did not know his buyer was an illegal alien, but the jury they should convict him anyway because he “had reasonable cause to believe” he was selling to an illegal alien because the two men and a boy who were present at his table at the time of the sale: 1) were Hispanic, 2) spoke Spanish, and 3) wore cowboy clothing. And the jury did as asked. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Freel acted as lead prosecutor in the case.
The firearm transaction at issue occurred on January 16, 2010, at a gunshow at the North Austin Events Center, at 10601 N. Lamar Blvd., in Austin, Texas. Undercover ATF agents followed Mr. Huerta, his son, and another Hispanic male, Hipolito Aviles, around the “Texas Gunshow” that day, and claimed to observe Huerta’s transaction. Austin P.D. used Copeland’s case as the reason to close down the gunshow, leading to a protest by Austin residents in front of APD headquarters on January 25.
Mr. Copeland is a 56 year old Cedar Creek resident and Vietnam veteran who liked to buy, sell, and trade firearms as a hobby. On January 16, however, he had the misfortune to sell a handgun to Leonel Huerta Sr., who spoke both English and Spanish. Huerta Sr. negotiated his purchase from Copeland in English, showing Copeland his Texas Driver’s License. At Copeland’s trial Huerta admitted on the witness stand, that he is in the country illegally, (Huerta Sr. had previously admitted this fact to Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) Special Agent Leo Buentello). ATF Agent Shawn Kang claimed he saw Huerta later hand off the gun to Aviles. Despite these admissions, Huerta Sr. was never arrested, charged, or deported. Instead, his presence at the gunshow was used to entrap an American citizen into an unwitting violation of a federal gun control law. Huerta Sr., who is a resident of the City of Austin, appeared as a witness at the trial, admitted he was in the country illegally before federal prosecutors and a federal judge, yet he was allowed to leave the courtroom under his own power. To date Huerta Sr. has not been prosecuted for his purchase, possession, or disposition of the handgun he bought from Copeland, while Copeland is now a convicted felon.
“Instead of busting the illegal alien for buying, they bust the citizen for selling,” commented Paul Velte, attorney and founder of Peaceable Texans for Firearms Rights, a gun-owners rights advocacy group from Austin. Velte asked, “who was in a better position to know the buyer’s immigration status, the buyer or the seller?” He also said, “What happened to Paul Copeland should enrage all Americans. The Federal Government is using illegal aliens to entrap citizens lawfully exercising their right to sell firearms. The illegal alien walks free, but the citizen gets convicted. The same government charged with controlling immigration is the one using illegal immigrants to attack its own citizens. Does this make any sense? It makes no sense unless the purpose is to discourage attendance at gunshows and frighten citizens from selling their firearms to other citizens.”
Velte pointed out that “There is no way for a citizen to know who is here legally or not. In fact, under Austin’s ‘sanctuary city’ policy, not even the police officer at the door of the gunshow was allowed to ask a person’s immigration status, yet the average Texan inside the show is expected to assume that a person standing before them with a Texas driver’s license is in the country illegally just because they look Mexican and speak Spanish.”
Velte noted that the federal government’s lawsuit against Arizona was based on that very type of conduct: Concluding someone could be here illegally based on their looks or their language. Velte said gun owners in his group are outraged, and they want to know:
• Why is the illegal alien who purchased the gun, Leonel Huerta Sr., still living in Austin?
• Why does he still have a Texas Driver’s license?
• Why is ATF using illegal aliens to set up and convict American citizens?
• What has he been promised for his cooperation?
• Why has he not been prosecuted? He committed three distinct crimes: he purchased a firearm knowing he was an illegal alien, he possessed the firearm, and he transferred the handgun to another illegal alien (Hippolito Aviles, who was convicted and given time served on June 30, 2010).
• Why has Huerta Sr. not been deported?
"State of emergency declared in North Carolina," the WECT News 6 headline informs us. "Governor Bev Perdue has declared a State of Emergency for North Carolina in anticipation of Hurricane Earl's arrival."
From blogger John Jacob H:
"Upon Governor Beverly Perdue’s declaration of a State Of Emergency on September 1, 2010 Dove Hunters, Concealed Carry Handgun Licensees, Target Shooters and all other gunowners cannot possess, transport or use firearms off their personal property as per N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-288.7"
Here's what the statute says:
"§ 14?288.7. Transporting dangerous weapon or substance during emergency; possessing off premises; exceptions.
"(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, it is unlawful for any person to transport or possess off his own premises any dangerous weapon or substance in any area:
"(1) In which a declared state of emergency exists; or

"(2) Within the immediate vicinity of which a riot is occurring.
"(b) This section does not apply to persons exempted from the provisions of G.S. 14?269 with respect to any activities lawfully engaged in while carrying out their duties.
"(c) Any person who violates any provision of this section is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. (1969, c. 869, s. 1; 1993, c. 539, s. 192; 1994, Ex. Sess., c. 24, s. 14(c).)"
Charlotte Gun Rights Examiner Paul Valone alerted us to the dangers of this statute back in June, when he informed us:
"Grass Roots North Carolina* has joined Michael Bateman, Virgil Green, Forrest Minges, Jr., and the Second Amendment Foundation in a lawsuit against the state’s emergency powers gun ban...Plaintiffs are represented by attorney Alan Gura, who won the recent McDonald v. Chicago Second Amendment case and the landmark D.C. v. Heller case preceding it."
And in February, Dave Workman told us of the North Carolina emergency powers gun ban being invoked during a snow storm.
You can view the complaint Valone reported on here.
But time's up for North Carolina gun owners. They can either obey the law, and go defenseless if they have to leave their homes, or just say the hell with stupid, evil anti-defense edicts and take their chances they won't be caught and punished--providing they survive their encounter with the "authorities".
Government, of course, as usual, has things exactly Bizarro-World backwards. It's when the security of a free state is imperiled that the right of the people to keep and bear arms is most necessary.
What an outrageous choice to force a supposedly free human being to make. Especially when we've seen what can happen when unarmed people are caught trying to get to safety by the "only ones" who can "legally" bear arms in an emergency.
As I asked when commenting on that atrocity:
"If you were trying to get to safety with your loved ones and had to make your way through a no man's land populated by looting predators and worse, would you go defenseless?"
Well, would you? Even if you lived in North Carolina?
UPDATE: GRNC Alert: "His name is Earl and your rights are nil"
UPDATE 2: Paul Valone offers some new observations.
UPDATE 3: I see John Pierce also weighed in on this back during the blizzard.

6 News Reporter
KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police say a gunman fled on foot Thursday night after shooting a cashier in the chest at a cafeteria in Bearden.
The shooting happened just before 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the S & S Cafeteria at 4808 Kingston Pike.
Witnesses say there were about 30 people in the restaurant at the time of the shooting.
They also say the cashier was lying unconscious on the floor of the restaurant while rescue workers attended to him.
Police tell 6News the victim was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
After the shooting there were emotional scenes outside the S&S Cafeteria as many learned that their friends and loved ones were not hurt in the incident.
Margaret Kirk was eating dinner with her husband. She said she dove under the table as soon as she heard a shot fired.
"I heard a man yell for help. I looked and I saw four arms up in the air and then I heard the shot," said Kirk.
Samantha Cox is a waitress at the restaurant. She hid in the freezer. Cox says there was another attempted robbery at the eatery only two weeks ago.
"It's traumatic. I cannot work here anymore. I'm a full-time student. This is too much stress," said Cox.
Angie Roach, eating at the restaurant with her father at the time says police were on scene minutes after the shooting.
"The only thing that went through my mind was getting the victim some help. So I called emergency crews to get some help," said Roach.
Crews searched for the suspect on the ground, and in the air with a helicopter.
Police have a limited description of the suspect, saying he's a black man, with a white shirt, tan shorts and a baseball cap. They say he took off on foot.
"You really don't know what something like this is like until it happens to you. It's terrifying," said Kirk.

Capt. Paul Starks said that police were in communication with the gunman, and that he was making some demands. The suspect had "concerns" with the Discovery Corporation, he said.
A caller from One Discovery Place, the channel's headquarters, called police about 1 p.m. to report a man with a gun and possible explosives, said Angela Cruz, a police spokeswoman.
The area has been evacuated, she said.
Police identified the gunman only as an Asian male.
Authorities sent a SWAT team and other resources, said Cpl. Dan Friz of the Montgomery County police. The gunman is in the lobby area, Friz said. Authorities were trying to get in touch with him.
It appears the man has some kind of explosive device, Friz said. Fire marshals with explosives experience were assisting.
A witness, Lisa Lucas, told CNN affiliate WJLA that she and others outside of the building heard at least one gunshot from One Discovery Place. Friz said that to the best of his knowledge no shots had been fired by police.
A day care inside One Discovery Place was successfully evacuated, and the children were moved to a McDonald's, authorities said.
Renard Jenkins, who works across from the Discovery Channel headquarters, said he saw the mobilization of a bomb
squad and a large armored vehicle pulling a trailer.
"Police are on high alert, positioning themselves behind columns, cars, anything that gives cover. All have their weapons drawn," Jenkins said. "From what we're seeing, everyone seems to be calm."
He said he could not see into the lobby where the hostage-taking is apparently under way, but could see the activity immediately outside.
Bomb technicians from the FBI and ATF agents also responded to the scene, spokesmen from both agencies said.
The Discovery Channel told employees in an e-mail Wednesday that the company has "reason to believe there is an armed gunman at One Discovery Place." The company said "all employees should seek protection in a locked office on their respective floors immediately."
Lori Rorke told CNN that she was on the second floor when she and her co-workers heard about the man.
"When we first heard the news, we heard that the gunman was mobile and we were told to go into locked offices," she said. "We were really panicking, then trying to keep it under control."
But, she said, fellow workers carrying BlackBerries seemed to know what to do, and led her out of the building via a route that circumvented the lobby.

I am posting this to raise awairness that EVERYONE needs to become an organ donor. If a wonderful family hadn't decided to donate their thirteen year old daughter's organs, I wouldn't have my brother today.
PESHASTIN — A Snohomish man accidentally shot himself in his left buttock Saturday when he put a handgun in his back pocket.

Darrel Elam, 52, was preparing to go hiking on Blewett Pass and had moved his 40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun from its holster to his back pocket to see if that position would be more comfortable for walking, said Jerry Moore, chief of administration for the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

The gun discharged and shot down his left buttock and left leg, coming to rest just above his knee.

Elam was treated at Central Washington Hospital and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. The incident happened on Blewett Pass about 12 miles from Peshastin.

Karen Lykins, communications director for the school, said Johnson Hall -- which houses the business school -- was put on lockdown around 11:10 a.m. CDT Tuesday after someone reported seeing someone else with bullets in a bathroom in the building.
Lykins said shots were not fired and authorities did not find a gun. City and university police searched the area.
The building was later evacuated and classes in the building were canceled as a precaution.
