Buying some C&R guns. I'm pretty much a newb at this. Help me out fellow TGO'ers.
I like the Classic Arms webpage, looks like good people to me. I've seen a few posts about them and they look pretty good.
What you guys think and where do you guy like the best to buy from. or does it really matter. Out of all the sites I have been to it looks like they all pretty much have the same stuff.
It is kind of hard also trying to figure out what to get, (some are dated, some not, some matching numbers, varying conditions, different names and manufacturers).

Just got the C&R and looking. Just wanted to start a discussion to see what comes up.
Shooting targets @ 50 yds & 100 yds. Much more accurate @ 50 than 100. Shot off center to right on both targets, probably because I would flinch when pulling the trigger. Looks like a Nancy pad is on order, my shoulder is already getting sore and I think I spot some discoloration. Just call me Sally.........however, it sure was fun to shoot, now that I've broken it in solo, I will not be embarrassed to go to Norris with the usuals for a day of shooting. :tough:

Had a VERY short bolt handle, stubby even. Not as easily operated as my M/N.
The stock and handgaurd go all the way to the muzzle also. Was in what Id call "fair" cosmetic shape, I couldnt tell about the bore. Oh, also had a hex reciever on it.
Price tag was $300. Nice to see something youve only read about!

My first C&R purchase. A '44 VKT barrelled Finnish Mosin. This is a man's rifle. Purchased from gunsnammo.com. Now I finally have something to go with those 1,760 rounds of 7.62x54r that I bought a few months ago.

My second purchase. Didn't need to use my C&R because it's an antique. Another Finn M39, built on an 1894 receiver with a Sako barrel. Pre-1899 guns aren't classified as firearms under federal law, and can be sold across state lines without an FFL or a C&R. Pretty cool to have a gun delivered to your front door that didn't require any paperwork.

I got my C&R license originally intending on buying a couple cheap Russian 91/30s. But as I did some research I came across the Finns and was attracted to them for their superior craftsmanship and accuracy. An M39 costs three times as much as a 91/30 but it's still pretty darn cheap. And I figured I might as well get a couple before they dry up or double in price. I also have a Swiss Miss K31 that I got pre-C&R. Another blueblood of the milsurp family. What can I say, I like to spend a little extra for the good stuff.

[Exclusive] US opposes Seoul?s bid to sell old rifles ...

[Exclusive] US opposes Seoul?s bid to sell old rifles <img src='/www/news/images/ic_korean.gif'>

The U.S. government opposed South Korea’s bid to sell hundreds of thousands of aging U.S. combat rifles to American gun collectors, a senior government official said Thursday.

The ministry announced the plan last September as part of efforts to boost its defense budget, saying the export of the M1 Garand and carbine rifles would start by the end of 2009.

The U.S. administration put the brakes on the plan, citing “problems” that could be caused by the importation of the rifles.

The problems the U.S. government cited were somewhat ambiguous, said an official at the Ministry of National Defense on condition of anonymity.

“The U.S. insisted that imports of the aging rifles could cause problems such as firearm accidents. It was also worried the weapons could be smuggled to terrorists, gangs or other people with bad intentions,” the official told The Korea Times.

“We’re still looking into the reason why the U.S. administration is objecting to the sale of the rifles and seeking ways to resolve the problems raised,” he said.

Critics say the ministry pushed to sell the firearms in a hasty manner without enough consultation with the U.S. beforehand, as calls were growing to increase defense expenditure.

The Seoul government sought to sell the outdated U.S guns back to the United States.

A total of 86,000 M1 rifles and another 22,000 carbines were to be sold, as the weapons have been mothballed for about five decades in military warehouses. The per-unit price of the M1 rifle is about $220 and the carbine is more than $140, according to the ministry.

M1s were made first in 1926 and used in World War II and the 1954-1975 Vietnam War. The carbines were first produced in 1941 and used during the 1950-1953 Korean War.

I couldn't wait on my 03 to get processed and just had to get this before Classic Arms ran out. I picked this up (transferred it through Austin's in Oak Ridge) last Friday, and just finished putting it back together after cleaning up the wood and refinishing it (in a small way) with boiled linseed oil.

It's a No4 Mk1 from Maltby, made in 1943, and once I got it cleaned up I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bore's really shiny and the rifling looks good and sharp. Maybe I got one that had been carried much and shot little.

I'm not going to clean up the metal for the same reason that I didn't steam the dents and gouges out of the stock. I like that it's got a little character from honest wear.

Anyway, enjoy.

I know they stopped doing unit buttons on these a long time before mine was even produced, but I'd be really interested if anybody's got information on how I can find out what unit it was issued to.
