AK/Saiga Mags

okay, arsenals website specifically says that the sgl's will accept any standard ak magazine... I bought tapcos and they are a pain in the arse to get in my new saiga, way too tight! anyone hear of any similar problems?

A couple thoughts:
1. Are you sure your getting them in straight? Sometimes if you get them just a little canted they will bind.
2. If that's not the problem you may need to open the mag well a hair. Try to find where the tight spots are and relieve a little material in those spots. Just be careful! They may have not ground down the catch (one of the Saiga conversion steps)

or most likely,

3.it may be the Crapco's. I would try normal AK mags first and then see how they fit. US mags are NOT the way to go with AK's.

I'll let you know when mine gets here next week. I ordered a 30-round Bulgarian waffle with it, and a couple of 40-rounders from another site. If I had to wager a guess though, I'd agree that it's probably the Tapco's...

I have an AK that won't take Tapco's. It's just the mag well size. I like using the old used mil surp steel mags in mine anyway.

I personally wouldn't whittle away at the magwell to put Tapcos in it.

^I wouldn't either, they say the whole purpose of those nice tight magwells are for no wobble with milspec mags, I'll sand down the mags or see if someone wants a trade...
