photography...well camera (d60) help?

I'm in a little hot water here, while on an outing my wifes d60 fell out of the car onto the ground while under my care it has no visible damage to it what-so-ever but will not turn on... everyone has said it just has to be sent back to nikon, could take forever and they could charge out the wazoo. any suggestions?

Try removing and re-installing the battery. Probably won't help.

Sending it back to Nikon is your best bet. Their customer service centers are similar to Canon's in that they are usually quick to address issues like this and give you an estimate for repair. Too many pro photogs out there use Nikon gear for them to drag their feet along and not respond quickly.

tried the battery thing, also charged it. my guess is some sort of contact is loose or broke under the on/off switch, best i can tell thats close to where it landed...right on top of it! I dpnt think i have any kind of service plan, at least i didnt see anything on the receipt.

Did you fill out and mail in the warranty card?

You have a year of coverage from the purchase date should anything happen. Call Nikon's CS and see what they can do for ya.

Yeah, whatever you do, don't open it up and try to fix it. You will fail at whatever goal you set forth with. If you've ever seen the inside of a digital camera, it's like 25 computers crammed into the space inside. Also, it will void your warranty.

Sadly most manufacturer's warranties will not cover physical damage. However, if you don't want to send it to Nikon you could try to take it to a Wolf Camera if you have one close. The problem with DSLR's is that there are so many parts that it's difficult to quickly locate the problem which causes the delays in repair turn around time. Nikons are great cameras but unfortunately, as is the case with many electronic devices, the cost of repairs can quickly equal or exceed the cost of replacement depending on the problem.

This is easy.
Just follow these 5 simple steps!

  • Buy new camera.
  • Take before pics.
  • Tell wife you broke her 600 dollar camera.
  • Take after pics of body injuries.
  • Post said pics here.
