naked woman and beer

Just an advertising scam.
No one would help when I posted it correct so I am trying creative advertising.

Thanks for looking this time.

winchester 1200 magazine spring length
My dad borrowed my sons 12ga to go goose hunting and in the field he decides he better put the plug in the gun. Well the magazine spring went on vacation and we haven't seen it since. I ordered one for Wolfe spring it is 40 inches long and says fitting is required but I can't find the proper length for the gun. Does anyone know the length or have a Winchester 1200 that would measure it for me? I saw somewhere on google 36" but Im not certain that is correct.

Ok, You shamed me into taking some measurements. I sure am not going to pull the model 12 apart to measure the spring. I really don't think the length is critical. I would put it in behind the shell follower and try it. May be that 40 inch is ok.
Length of tubular magazine is about 17 inches overall with about 16.5 inches to the locking slide. I measure 6 x 2 1/2 inch shells and get somewhere close to right at 15 inches, just what the math says. When the six shells are in the tubular magazine there is no more room for compression of the spring and follower. So your spring and shell follower are going to have to about 1 1/2 inches compression. If I were doing it, I would try the spring full length and start inserting shells. If the sixth shell did not clear the entrance easily I would pull the spring and remove a coil or two and try again until it worked.
Another way to get a measurement would be find a way to compress the spring. Measure it and the follower and figure it from there.
This was done on my 1927 vintage model 12 Winchester.
Good luck. Again, I do not think it is a critical dimension and I can foresee no problems.

That's effective!

I can't get to my father-in-law's 1200 right now to help you out - he's out of state.

The instruction manual is not much help because it only has a picture of the spring, and the spring is partially inserted into the magazine in that picture. http://media.winchesterguns.com/pdf/...l1200_om_s.pdf
