Your car is your castle???????

Sorry to be dumb as a box of rocks but here goes!

Your employer has a "firearms" policy that "doesn't apply to personal vehicles"(read your employers policy over and over...DOES it apply to your car or just your person??????)

Not sure what that means BUT I will now be bringing my gun to work AND keeping it in the car.

Just keep it in the car..unloading it when you arrive would be an extra "measure" of caution in case the "issue" ever came up.

Think so far that your in good shape(ie. following the law)...maybe huh??!! Who really knows??

When should you reload???

So far so good.

Now you like to hit the gym after work which involves going to one of the posted parks.

Are you still legal by entering the park BUT not carrying it with you and keeping it in the car.

Unloaded/Loaded/concealed/locked up in the trunk(not much good in there!)

Now lets say someone attempts to mug/rob/carjack you while your leaving the premises. I wonder where you would stand in court IF you were in your vehicle.

This is probably covered in another post..If so please feel free to delete/redirect...but I'm interested to hear what some of the employer policies actually say AND how you could maybe STILL carry with you while going to and from work. If your like me and work far away that involves ALOT of time unarmed.

I'd like to think (HOPE) that your car is your castle too!!! I spend nearly 12 hours a week in it!!!!

I don't believe you can be prosecuted for having a firearm in a prohibited place if it is legitimately used in self defense.

You can be. There is a debated defense to it under 39-17-1322, but it is merely a defense. You could still be brought up on charges.

Doesn't work that way in Tennessee. There are recently passed laws that extend a certain degree of breathing room for you if you are in your car, but you still have to have a permit and you still fall within the laws having it in your car loaded just like you would walking around with it on.

I work on a federal installation, so no firearms on your person, in your car, in the air on anywhere inside the fence....

Aside from work and parks, the question of TRAVELING through AEDC came up. Great place to hunt BUT when your carrying CAN you get out of your vehicle AND LEAVE your carry gun in the car when head off in the woods?

This would be just on the WMA areas NOT inside the fenced (base) areas

Wondered this over the weekend. The sign seemed pretty clear about NOT bringing with you while your on the property(on foot??) but what about when your in your vehicle? That part wasn't so clear....at least to this dummy

I'm really not sure what your question is. If the question is Can you have a firearm in your car, like in your house...the answer is No.

As Punisher84 said...you have to have a carry permit to have your handgun on you in your car.

If your gun is in your car and your car is inside of a place where the posession of firearms is prohbited, you are going to be in trouble, carry permit or not.

As far as the work place, as has been said in many threads, TN is a "right to work" state, you can pretty much be let go for no reason at any time. So even if the possesion is not against the law, that's not going to help a lot if you are fired.

I may be wrong on this but on the safe side.
I would keep it locked in the car unloaded of course( with ammo in separate location in the car, not easy to get to). Might be good to get yourself a cabled lock box for securing it to the underseat of your vehicle. Especially on AEDC property. If you go thru the gate since it is a Federal installation( air force base) i do not think weapons of any kind are allowed except by authorized military or security personnel.

As for me carrying my weapon to work. That is one of the few places i do not carry into. I leave mine locked in my car. My boss has a HCP and he knows i have one as well, But i abide by the rules set forth by the company policy even though i disagree with it i'm not risking my job over me carrying a gun to work.

Actually you have to have a permit to have a loaded gun anywhere in your car, not just on your person in Tennessee.

Yep...I didn't type that exactly the way I meant to.....

Meant to say you had to have a permit period to have it loaded in your car...whether it is on you or not.
