So you're implying the guys in the sandbox right now who are paying the ultimate price are somehow LESS than the veterans of WWII? That's utterly offensive, and as an American, you should be ashamed of yourself.

haha..not really but hey while we're on that topic..

No really water under the bridge but amazing how all "gun folk" can overlook all the damage that was done over the previous 8 years while blasting the current President.

Ask yourself....Sarah Palin??? Give me a #$@#@$ break!!!

John...you could have done MUCH better!!

We are in desperate need of a THIRD PARTY!!!!

Military people need to be better taken care of and OUR government needs to REPRESENT US!! That's really the bottom line and no matter who you vote for those couple topics should be on the forefront of your mind.

Sorry to offend many, but George W and his PARTNER IN CRIME were a MAJOR embarrassment to our Country and probably did more damage in their terms then was EVER done in the course of our history.

It will take years to restore....Republicans and Democrats need to find some honest/hard working people to represent us....NEITHER party seems to give a rat's #$@ about US>>>THE AMERICAN PEOPLE (ie. not special interest, banks, hedge fund managers, big oil, etc...)

Bottom line is yeh...sure Obama is by no means perfect BUT Bush was certainly no Saint either.....This tragedy has many factors that starts with the personal responsibility of the suspect and continues on to people that knew him, the Army that hired him, etc......

I dont quite think thats what he meant Poak...I think he was referring to that whole generation of people meaning their values/morals were less skewed and selfish...they had more of a "lets do whats best for this country" mentality then todays generation. I don't think it was meant as any comparison "soldier to soldier".

If that's what he meant, I apologize, but still don't agree.

Nostalgia is all too often an idealized look at the past, not a realistic one.

Nope not less but as a WHOLE there is a lot of PROBLEMS with our MILITARY.

Sadly the "guys in the sandbox" take the brunt of the abuse as we try to address and discuss the many issues (many of these issues effect them negatively and that makes it even worse) and I apologize for that impression....I meant more of the "problems" that we are seeing today with the armed forces:

"Do you trust me" games....soldiers killing soldiers.
Criminal activities done by soldiers.
Handing out Purple Hearts like candy.
Failure to take care of the soldiers AND family.
STRESS, STRESS, STRESS that our Government FAILS to address AND even brushes under the rug!!!

What exactly is going on?????

Yeh ask yourself....hmmm....a unit takes on fire and does something truly heroic AND the officers NOT EVEN THERE receive MEDALS along with the ground troops????

Time to REALLY think about it quite honestly....and yeh it's probably been going on for a longer time.

Sadly the boots take all the abuse of what really is a MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM.

Responsibility for this situation begins and ends with the shooter. It's not Bush's fault, it's not the Army's fault, it's the shooters fault. I'm as critical of Bush, and all politicians for that matter, as anyone, but this is not his fault. Maybe it could have been prevented if more people had seen the warning signs and intervened, but that doesn't make it their fault.

This PC attitude that someone else is always to blame is sickening. And that same PC attitude may have been why people didn't intervene to begin with. They may not have wanted to appear to be singling out a Muslim officer. Can you imagine the publicity nightmare if they had investigated this officer and the media got wind of it? I can pretty well guarantee that it would have been spun by some in the media that the military was persecuting Muslims. Just something to think about.

+1

...and +1000 on the PC part of your post. This guy's behavior had red flags all over it, but the political aspects made confronting the issue a CLM (career limiting manuever).

Woah how did this turn into a Bush debate.

I hate it when people blame Bush. No I dont think Bush was correct in what he was doing on many aspects. There were a lot of errors made. But people have to remember something the President cant do jack all by himself. Our founding fathers set up a system that prevents that. I think it has something to do with checks and balances. However the system failed and let him make those mistakes.

You can thank the previous administration for fostering a "no care" attitude towards our Military.

You can thank the current administrations parties general attitude towards guns for the fact that the he COULD continue to shoot with no one having the ability to stop the threat.

ALOT of people are to blame....bottom line is us "proud" Americans are becoming an increasingly selfish bunch....we're headed down a slippery slope and the saddest part is that everyone has someone ELSE to blame including the President of our Country. Well all you "proud" conservatives should spend a little time reflecting on the what the previous President (and his PARTNER IN CRIME) did to this Country. The Pendulum continues to swing.....our only hope should be is that is swings for many more years.

Time for all of us to start thinking of someone besides ourselves.

We used to be a caring bunch....yes I think you can be caring AND strong....look at the GI's of WWII....TRULY the last GREAT generation of Americans....DUTY AND HONOR...I wonder if we'll ever return...
that great generation you speak of also took responsibility for their actions. They didn't blame mommies potty training for their destructive behavior.

This guy is to blame for the choices he made. He didn't have to join the military in a time that was actively engaged with Muslims, He didn't have to stay in Psychiatry, and he didn't have to kill others to validate his lack of reality.
