  1. Well after the forum switch the site would not accept my password. I tried to reset my password but I guess I have not updated my email address from when I signed up for my account in 2009. If someone could help me get logged back in that would be great, sent three messages using to supplied link a week or two back but have not heard back. Account name is Mrh3s.
  2. On the reloading front, buy in bulk when you can. Also I purchased the Giraud Tri-way trimmer head for .223 and picked up a used Evap cooler motor off of ebay for 25 bucks shipped. The tri way trimmer turn brass prep into an easy process, just stick the case in like your sharpening a pencil, brass comes out trimmed to length, chamfered, and de-burred. Wish I would have bought that set up first before spending money on other set ups that just didnt do it for me. Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
  3. Appreciate the replies, yeah first time with a chrono so was just a little suprised, primers were starting to flatten but weren't too bad. Definitely will have to load up some more for testing, what I found interesting was the rounds that were crimped using a factory crimp die showed an average of about 30 fps faster with a lower standard deviation across the string. Of course my reloading techniques are not super particular so a number of factors could have contributed. Also ive always read that Federal primers are "soft" in relation to others, has anyone found this to be the case with their small rifle match primers also.
  4. Well finally got a chronograph and tested some of my handloads. Purchased a Magnetospeed sporter and took it to the range today. Lets just say I was a little surprised at the numbers. A couple weeks back I worked up 5 different 10 shot loads using Ramshot Tac powder behind a 75gr Hornady BTHP. Im using lake city brass, preped with a Giraud tri-way trimmer and federal match primers that a friend gave to me. Worked from 23.4 grs up to 24.5 in .2gr incraments, mind you this was before the chrono, and found that 23.8 and 24.0 gave the best groups for that day at about .63 moa and slightly flattened primers. Settled on 24.0 gr and loaded up another 50 rounds. I used a Lee factory crimp die for 25 of them and did 25 without the crimp. Well these were shot today in two strings of 6 shots with the following results. Shot from a 18inch Dpms 1-8 twist heavy contour barreled AR15. 75gr Hornady BTHP with Lee Factory Crimp Avg - 2845 High - 2866 Low - 2834 SD - 11 ES - 32 No crimp Avg - 2817 High - 2842 Low - 2786 Sd - 17 Es - 56 So needless to say that seems way to hot for a semi auto. I was surprised by those numbers becuase when looking for load data numerous people loaded 24+ gr of Ramshot Tac and I believe even the website listed the max as 24.4. Any one else have any experience with this load combination. Also do you think the magnetospeed gives a higher MV due to it being actually at the muzzle as opposed to 10 - 15 feet away as with a normal chrony. In my mind that doesnt seem like that big of a difference, but ive been wrong before.
  5. Yeah this is for the LC380, not the LCP most people think of. Now a 9mm LCP would be kind of interesting.
  6. Have my AR up in the classifieds as ive been looking for a Savage or Remington 700 bolt action lately to build up, stumbled across that big review over on SnipersHide and I was sold. Anyone got a bead on one of these locally? I called all the big shops around here, Armory, Outpost, local Murfreesboro one, and nothing. Hoping GT's will have some as they are a Ruger LE Distributer according to Rugers website.
  7. Have shot a buddy of mines multiple times at the range, feels good in the hands, quick to transition especially with the eotech he has, definitely has a different recoil impulse than your typical AR. O and your face can cause FTE's when shooting one with a left hand conversion haha. Seems the brass ejects at about my chin level.
  8. Im glad to see im not the only one. The way I look at it, if I miss a shot its not going to be the barrel that was the limiting factor. The gas block is from Battle Tested Equipment. It was their Set screw mounted micro adjustable I believe.
  9. @gunwhatgun The fit and finish of that Tennessee Arms Company lower is amazing. With mine being a factory blemished piece I found one little nick where it looks like a tool may have grazed the hump where the bolt catch release pin is inserted. I have full confidence in the lower and would not hesitate to take it back over seas, and look forward to picking up some more in the future. Wish I had the spare cash to grab some up with the deals they have going on right now. @BigK I went with a DPMS Mark 12 barrel, I purposely left the brand name out in the first post due to some negative connotations some people have with the company. I can not speak on those that have but doing my own research on the barrel I figured it is more than accurate enough that I will never shoot it to its full potential. Used to be some good reviews of the barrel on Snipershide and AR15.com
  10. Hello All, Figured since I have never posted here, but read for a couple of years now I would share my first build which happens to also be my first personal AR. It all started out around fathers day with a sale on a blemished FDE Hybrid TN Arms Company lower that I picked up for about the price of the FFL transfer. IT was originally planned as a bare bones, cheap as I could get AR build; with the plan being to buy a PSA rifle kit or something of that nature and building a rifle for $500-$600 and being done with it. Being right before fathers day I started looking at some of the online deals, which led me into picking up a 416 Stainless steel 1-8 twist 18" Barrel for a steal. This is considered a heavy weight barrel and is 18 inches so the rest of the rifle was built around that with a lean to hopefully shooting some three gun matches at some point with it. I also like to reach out and touch some stuff with this rifle if I can ever set back enough for a decent scope. Here are the parts currently. Lower Parts Lower Reciever - TN Arms Co, Hybrid lower Lower Parts Kit and Stock - PSA Armory Magpul MOE Upper Parts Upper Receiver- Aero Precision FDE Adjustable Gas Block Barrel Nut Rifle length gas tube Charging Handle - BCM Gunfighter MOD 4 Bolt and Bolt Carrier Group- Aim Surplus Barrel-18' medium contour Free Float 15" Troy Alpha Battlerail Hand machined 3 chamber brake Excuse the phone pictures. I eventually would like to put a harris bipod on it, Vortex PST 1-4, and need to grab a sling and case for it still. Ive put about 700 rounds through it over two range sessions and it amazes me how flat and smooth is it. The barrel, Brake, and adjustable gas block really take away any recoil out of my hand loaded rounds and its so fast to shoot. eventually I would also like to switch out the cheap lower parts kit trigger for a proper drop in, Im thinking CMC 3.5lb flat trigger or a giessele something or another.
