Form 4 date break down

Recommended Posts

So, I got my form 4 back like I mentioned in another thread. Deputy sheriff apparently can't sign off unless he states on the form he has permission to. Which he did, and it was some simple ATF nit picky crap they like to pull. So, heres my breakdown. Lets see how long it takes me to get it now.

Mailed the form:

June 21st

Pending:

July 25th

Paperwork issue date states:

Jan 14th

The Outpost called me to tell me the issue and ship my form back to me on:

Jan 21th

I got it to my mailbox on:

Jan 23rd

Resigned by sheriff:

Jan 23rd

Approved:

March 26th 2014

I will be following this closely as my dates are close to yours but I have not had an error as far as I know.

Hey Chris, jusy fyi seems my Feb 2013 filed forms are just starting to roll in .. We may get lucky but the last 4-5 transfers have been 11+ months .. not to bring bad news but just throwing it out there.

Strangly, some of my print/photo form 4s customer's came back sooner than the trust forms ... that's what Kris filed above - not through me but I know how he rolls ;o) ...  so regardless of what they said I do believe that this new decision/proposal BS may have affected their work load some how... or at least it appears that way to me... good news is they have started to come back ... but for 4-5 months there I got NOTHING, not a single form 4 and during this time my Form 2s and 3s were taking 3-4 months as well...

But I promise I'll contact you as soon as I hear anything good or bad.

Thanks guys!

Mike,

I'm not really that optimistic on getting it back anytime before summer. However, I do have another SBR stamp I'm waiting on for one I sent myself before I bought the suppressor from you. That is the one I am anticipating being back sooner. I'm at about 9 months on that one. Don't worry I'm not freaking out yet, lol. I know I got a while on the suppressor. Hope business is going well.

Here's my one similar data point:

I just got a Form 4 back from a transfer from Guns & Leather.  I turned the completed (by me & CLEO) forms back into G&L the first week of March 2013.  Per the ATF it went pending May 15, 2013.

I didn't notice it at the time I picked it up, but the signature for the G&L representative was dated 9/27/2013.  So I'm guessing that the Form 4 was originally submitted to the ATF unsigned by the Transferor. The approval date stamp at the bottom of the form was 1/2/2014, so that was about 3 months after the corrected (signed) form was resubmitted to the ATF.

I am actually impressed that the ATF was back in the office the day after New Year's approving forms.  I was called by G&L on 1/18/14 saying they had received approved Form 4.

ETA: I also mailed a Form 1 to the ATF the same day I returned the Form 4 to G&L.  I haven't heard a peep about the Form 1 so far.  The ATF cashed my check for the Form 1 shortly after I submitted it, but I haven't called about.  I would have guessed that they would have done both my Form 4 & Form 1 together, but I guess not.

Last error correction mailed back September approved early Jan. Use to be the error corrections came back in a week or two. Hope this 2-3 month bs doesn't stick. Just a note, seems to have been more errors coming back. I've had 4 with a model discrepancy. I have the form 3 and cans here. I entered verbatim off the form 3 and double check the can of course. Appears examiner transposed model numbers when entering my form 3s. Eforms definitely help that issue as we dealers can now see exactly what we have listed in the registry. Picking from their list should eliminate all of that but I found it strange. Many transfers over the years and very seldom would I encounter this and now all of a sudden there's been a handful in a couple of months. But yeah this 3 month turn around is for the birds. I use to welcome error corrections. Heck any news use to be good news but now I shudder when one comes back. Sorry Kris. Hope yours turns around for ya quickly but everything is still dragging it seems. Hurry up and wait :o( Mike, the form 1 and form 4s use to go to two different places. Not sure it that's still the case. Been years since I helped anyone with their form 1 and just haven't payed attention to the new forms.

They still go to different places. West Virginia for form 1s and corrections to include form 4s and Atlanta for form 4s. Weird how they want you to send corrections to West Virginia though.... I was so confused I called the other day making sure it's the correct place to send them. And it was.

Could you re-submit a existing form 4 transfer to an e-file? I had one go pending in Oct. It would be faster to refile. I just can not see how that would be done, money wise and all. This sucks. I have an e-filed form 4 that I jut submitted last week that will get back before my Oct pending form 4.

Everyone's bursting my bubble of happiness here. Haha. You guys suck. 2-3 weeks. I'll just keep telling myself that every 2-3 weeks. Hahaha

Let me try to cheer you up.  Last year, I submitted three Form 4 applications in the same envelope.  One was error free, the other two contained stupid dealer errors and were returned for correction. They were corrected by the dealer, returned to the BATFE, and approved 5 days after the approval date on the error free submission. Good luck.

Mine timeframe is almost identical to yours.  Submitted in March, went pending May 17th, had some issue in October, and was approved Jan 2nd.  Also through Guns and Leather so that would seem to make sense.
