Does it seem 22 shortage is getting worse?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I've head to change my mindset about .22, and treat it like it's any other centerfire round; one shot at a time, and savor it. No spraying lead downrange. The supply / demand ratio is slowly returning to normal with other rounds, so it gives me hope that .22 will continue tapering off as well. It can be found at lower prices, but it doesn't last long. The lower the price, the faster it goes. I saw some .22 go up at MidwayUSA for $.04/round a week or so ago, and I think it lasted about 10 minutes, LOL. The good news is that the supply is still flowing.

Midway is screwed up with their stuff. I got an email notification about some .22 that was in stock. Obviously, as soon as I get the email I immediately click the link and it says it's sold out. Staying on the page and looking at other quantities of the same exact ammo on the page, a couple minutes later I get an email about the ammo I am currently looking at being in stock. I click the link and of course it says it is out of stock.

This often happens when orders are canceled (credit card problems, lack of proper ID, orders which are submitted with more than the posted limits per customer, etc.).  If the auto-mailer program isn't set up to disregard those minute quantities which show up in the in-stock inventory, mass emails are sent out immediately, even though there may be only a box or two in inventory.  This happens a lot with certain firearms as well, such as the surplus rifles sold by AIM, Classic, and others.

I am just going to clean up the .22 rifles and handguns real good...............................................and shove in the back of the safe and forget about 'em for another or so. Got about 2K of .22s but I ain't shoot 'em. So thats one less person ya'll will have to worry about competing for the ammo. carry on!

I've found 22 ammo at one of my local Walmarts twice recently during the middle of the day so at least supply is still coming in and resellers aren't buying 100% right at 7am every morning. Yesterday's find was winchester 333 boxes. Walmart was enforcing their 3 box per customer rule and commented that it was helping keep ammo on the shelf longer. My Wal-Mart got 4 cases of the 333 Winchester this Saturday morning.  It was the first shipment in about 3 weeks.  They get .40 and .45, and Tula 7.62 x 39 regularly now.  .45 stays on the shelf.
