Now I want a G42... but why?

Recommended Posts

The one thing that I hate about shooting at the Nashville Armory is the wait time. Not that it's not worth waiting 20-30 minutes to shoot there, but that's 20 - 30 minutes I've got to kill by browsing the gun counter. Last time I ended up buying my LCR-357. Had there not been a backlog of orders for the Glock 42, I would have came home with one of these in my range bag. But why?

I've got the Ruger LCP which is a pretty reliable and very small pistol that can be carried while almost completely naked! (I don't advise that... and I don't want to see any pics!) However, the little Glock 42 is just so steenkin' cute, it's almost like you just got to have one! Of course, a 9mm in the same size would be better and probably on the way in the next year or so, but this one just made me want to pinch its little cheeks. It didn't feel as small as it looked and I have a much better grip on it than either of my Ruger LCP or LC9. But... it's a .380! Do I really need another .380? It would make my third one if, and only if, you can pretend that the Lorcin L380 is an actual weapon. Ammo is scarce too...

I'm going to read some of the initial reports from the people who have already been able to get their hands on one of these little cuties, and see what kind of bugs been to be worked out. One thing I have seen was there were a few FTE's, and Hickok 43 was having trouble with Buffalo Bore ammo. Anyone else? The salesman at Nashville Armory suggested instead of getting put on "the list", to just wait until about April when demand slows down a little more and they can stock them. It will also give me the time to read the reviews about them too...

And you could potentially snag a used one at a decent price from someone who had to have one but didn't like it.

My Glock 42 has already been back to Smyrna,Georgia for consistent FTF...I put 50 rounds through it and it still did one malfunction. If it was anything other than range reloads ....I'm still not writing it off until it FsTF on factory ammo..None of my other Glocks malfunction...ever!

I thought I wanted one when they first came out. I could envision a small 380 with a better trigger than my LCP and Glock reliability. A lot of the range reports online seem to indicate that the 42 does not yet have the reliability that Glock is famous for. Guess I'll wait and see how they work out first.

I shot one tonight, the trigger does feel a little stiff but I think it has to do with the small size making it feel that way. I could see a use for one, it is smaller than my Shield but it recoils more because of its small size. This one belongs to a friend, he says it has been perfect with various FMJ, LRN, and Federal HP, he tried some Hornady and all but 3 FTF.

They are small. The S&W Bodyguard is smaller, though. The trigger is a little stiffer than other Glocks; I imagine that's because they know it's going to be riding in pockets a lot, and that makes it a tad safer.

There are plans for an 8 and 10 round mag for it, too.

Got one, love the way ist shoots.  No FTE's or FTF malfunctions.  I make sure my arm is locked out and keep it low in my hand.  Beware of your thumb because it is easy to let is rub on the slide during firing.  I have done fast double and tripple taps with no errors.  I have used Privy Partisan and light Winchester target loads in it and it just keeps running.  It is cute and very light to carry.  Looks kinda puny next to my 20C too.  The trigger was a bit on the stiff side but it is getting better the more I shoot it.

Well, I had the opportunity to shoot one yesterday. After two mags of "new gun problems," it ran like a champ, and really felt good. Very accurate. Can't believe it actually made me think I might want one...

Once a Glock fan always a Glock fan.

A marginal defensive round in a gun that's larger than several guns in which you can get an adequate defensive round.... what's not to like?

The fact that Glock sold more than about 12 of these is proof of just how strong the Kool-Aide really is.

Part of their marketing plan. They just finished the new plant in Smyrna that allowed them to make this gun in United States and

if it came out in 9mm the .380 sales could have been poor, so with orders waiting for rest of 2014 it looks like they will make it

in .40 next year to meet demand for LE wanting it as a backup. Then the 9mm and demand will be high, and final it will be offered

in .22 caliber. All marketing.

I can't believe the G42 is hard to find . The majority of the people I have read and heard from hated it being chambered in the .380 cartridge. Plus it's reliability seems to be hit and miss so far .

I asked a local dealer about one today and was told they had a list.  I walked out with a new S&W 629.

I had a chance to put a couple mags through a 42 about a week ago.

It felt better to me than regular size Glocks like the 19. It was fun to shoot, but like others have said, I don't know why a guy would choose one for a carry gun - especially when there are tiny 9mm pistols out there. Diamondback DB9 comes to mind.
