Article: Top Concealed Carry Handguns... your thoughts

Recommended Posts

I came across this article "Best Concealed Carry Handguns" and thought I'd post it for your information and comment.  http://www.washingtontimes.com/multimedia/collection/best-concealed-carry-handguns/?page=1

The article appeared in the Washington Times!  That's ironic since concealed carry permits are banned in Washington DC. The list really runs the gamut from cheap to expensive and includes some puzzling choices. See what you think.

Hmmm. I own several of those, and have had a couple others at one time or another.

Not sure I could go with the SCCY CPX though. Just on reputation alone, since I have no personal knowledge of it, I would hesitate on it.

And the Chiappa 20 DS?? I haven't shot one enough to make a good commentary on it as a cc, but it seems to function well, though maybe a little snag issue here and there with it.

All in all, I see some very good choices here.

I would personally have some reluctance to shoot a couple of these though. Specifically the Taurus 605 and the Beretta Nano. I have found both to be in the high uncomfortable to brutal range to fire, at least for me.

But all just my own opinions.

Many good choices here. Edited by hipower

The weight, dimensions, capactiy, and accuracy of their choices ar all over the place. I can't figure what their criteria were. However, they're a newspaper, so why would I expect them to know anything about guns?

I call bullcrap on the ones in bold. How is the Glock 19 not on this list?

I don't know of anyone carrying a Rhino or even a Glock 30 for that matter.

I suppose if you made a spreadsheet and calculated dimensions & weight vs. caliber and capacity, you might end up with a useful list, assuming all weapons are equally reliable... But I disagree with many of those listed above being 'best' in any number of scenarios, especially for every potential carrier.

I guess the puzzling part for me is that the list omitted some of the most popular concealed carry handguns of all time: Glock 26 and 27, Taurus LCP, Ruger TCP, KelTec P3AT

Yeah, they included two rip-offs of Kel Tec guns (the SCCY, of which the Gen 1 was said to be an almost direct copy of the P11, and the Ruger Little Copied Pistol) but neither of the Kel Tec originals?

Then, again, just the simple fact that they didn't include any Smith and Wesson j-frame revolvers pretty much makes me wonder if they really have any idea what they are talking about.

I call bs on the Taurus. NOBODY in their right mind would carry a polymer framed taurus .357

I have 2 buddies that both carry a G30 one a s and one a sf. Another buddy carries a bersa.

How or why did more glocks or revolvers not make the list?

There are a lot of uninformed or poor folks that carry Taurus and Hipoints. I would postulate that the cheaper guns are probably used in more crimes than any others.

No J frames?  I always figured they were the most carried gun in the US

This.  They're not exciting or sexy, but they still sell like crazy.  I'd be willing to bet if you omitted sales to police agencies, J frame revolvers are a huge chunk of their sold inventory.

I have to question their choices.  Not many of these that I would choose.

I have carried many in my endless and expensive quest to find my perfect carry gun. Right now I like the Shield as its very easy to shoot accurately. My all time favorite is a SIG 239 in 40SW. Simply an outstanding shooter and very accurate. I better keep looking though.... my dream carry gun is out there somewhere!
