I read some of that this morning, good if done correct. However it can and looks like it has been abused.

There IS likely a correct balance here somewhere, however I'm not sure exactly where the line is. With that said, based on the whole flap with semi-auto magazine fed weapons in that state, their credibility with me is something less than zero. Everything the state of Connecticut wants to do that limits the possession of firearms by private citizens is, IMO, not to be trusted at face value.

 

I am also somewhat concerned about this being exploited as a method to find "assault weapons" which then leads to felony charges against the owners. The fact that LE has been abusing the method (noooo, really?  :rolleyes: ) just increases my suspicion.

CA has a task force just for this, they look at who else is in your household too. Their program is over the top and if it keeps goin, if you have a kid on add meds or the like they will come remove firearms from the home. After all, the gov knows best:/

I think most if not everyone agrees that someone not right in the head shouldn't have a weapon. gun, knife or anything else. Problem with seizure laws is it's almost imposable to get your property bank after it's been seized. Also the burden of proof, that you are not off your rocker, is on you. 

There would have to be a lot of controls on these laws to keep them from being abused, but still allow them to work.

A friend of mine told me last week that a 90 year old relative was informed by VA that if she didn't remove a weapon from her property, they would stop the monthly payment she was entitled to receive.  There are too many opportunities by different government agencies to abuse a seizure law without due process.

This law will be like every other "gun control" law(except the standard background checks)...It will be for the most part innefective, and likely be abused by gun grabbing jurisidictions across the united states..The larger problem will still be there, and remain unfixed...

Those are the million dollar questions. My bet is that money and emotions will decide everything, because those who write the laws will be working in their own interests (job security), not anyone elses.

Also, the comment about "if police had been informed about mental issues or firearms."

 

Who does the informing? Some disgruntled family member? A spouse? A neighbor? Someone just wanting to cause trouble for you. It could be any of these.

 

Give the Government or any agency, LEO, or not, the ability to come into home and search.

 

Think several times before you say this proposal will be "OK."

 

Any one of us could be that person if we tee off even a guy on the street under this.

The Govt is so anti-2A now, you can absolutely expect this law to be abused, and be massaged in to something far worse as they seek to change it to give them more power over guns.
