Someone please explain what the hell this guy is doing.

Recommended Posts

Looks to me like he is just practicing transition to his weak hand. I practice shooting with mine but I always figured my right/strong  hand would be out of the equation if I wasn't shooting with it so I never saw the need to practice the transition. I usually just practice drawing or picking it up from the ground with my left hand only.

If you look further into the video, at about 58 seconds, you can see the same thing from the side instead of from behind. Looks like a normal grip to me.

Looks to me like when he switches to his left hand his right/support hand is going all the way under the gun to the left side.

I suppose anyone with a gun, some money can come up with a shooting school. It doesn't mean it's worth a damn.

That being said the more someone shoots, the right or wrong way, the more he will get used to shooting and hitting.

Case in point...I have a friend that has gone through a shooting school, got his hcp, even qualified for a security guard.

I took him out to our range to shoot 8 inch steel plates at around 23 paces and he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from

inside, with the door closed. It was funny to watch but sad...bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, cuss, bang,cuss,bang...reload..

bang, cuss, bang, hit! Then he turns to me and said, "finally!" MUAHAHAHAHAHA! I pulled my little 3.5 in Colt Officers and shoot

the other 5, bang ping, bang ping, bang ping, bang..MISS!, bang ping, bang ping. Whew, thought I was losing it.

Another thing I learned many years ago in the Academy was you never keep any flashlight anywhere near your gun/body.

If you want to look around a corner you stick the light as far out away from you as you can. Then peek around the corner.

If someone is gonna shoot they will shoot the light and it makes a great aiming point since its the only thing they can see.

A miss on the light will probably hit whatever is behind it. So why in the world would anyone want to attach a light to their gun

or hold it, pointing forward in one hand with the gun resting on their wrist? Amazing...

Things may have changed since the '70's but there was a reason that was taught back then.

I am not advocating the technique or anything, but it's called a Center Axis Relock . Paul Castle is the guy behind it IIRC and it's been around for a bit now. I was first exposed to it in or around 2005...

I know very little about it other than that. Just not anything I looked much into.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out where this came from. That at least answers that question.

Aside from my own personal opinion of the content of the video....I do believe that's the worst promotional video I've ever seen

Go through the pictures. In almost every one the "instructor" has his finger on the trigger.

I like the one with the cigar in his mouth, way too badass for me. He appears more low speed, high drag to me. I think I'm going to open my own school

Yeah, lets confuse people even more. I just tried aiming with my left eye and I can say it is hard. I guess after 35+ years of shooting it is a hard habit to break.

Every "tactical trainer" has to come up with something that makes them unique. We are in a gold rush, so to speak, of tactical training and all kinds are trying to get their fair share of the pot but very few have, what I feel, are the qualifications to train others. It takes more than 3-4 years in the military and a civilian course or two.

Here is a pretty funny promotional video too.

He is one of our resident "experts" here in East Tennessee. And it seems as though he is a member here but not hanging around or posting. It also says a lot when they are using Highpoints. Now nothing wrong with a Highpoint but it is not something you see all the SEALs, CAG or other SOCOM units using. And I don't care how many times you have cleared a weapon you DO NOT use it in training where it will be pointed at someone else.

BTW, he used to work for a local sheriff's office but got himself into some trouble that forced him out of LE.

5.11's....check

thigh rig....check

catchy music...check

slow motion video....check

someone I would actually training with...fail

Hey Dolo, does that range look familiar to you?

LOL, I just noticed it now. Glad to see is doing so well he can afford his own training facility. Maybe he has been there when we were there. I know I have seen quite a few "tactical trainers" using that public range.

I just read his BIO and he is "Security Operations Manager with Blacksword Security". Sounds kind of familiar....LOL
