Finished a couple of AR's

Recommended Posts

The camo one, most of y'all have seen in my paint thread. The other two I just finished. The TGO lower I bought already assembled from a member here, and the Spike's Tactical I put together (my first one ever). One upper is a PSA and the other is a Radical Firearms upper, both with free float handguards. I can't claim to have completely built these since the barrels were on the uppers that I bought, but I am still wanting to do one complete from scratch just to say I did. Anyway, here they are.

Here are some closer pics at the RF upper.

Look good!
Are those the RF folding sights? If so will be interested in how they work for you since I can't get mine to zero...

Figured out that the front post on mine has a hard stop on the bottom of the threads, not sure if it is meant to have the lip or if it was not machined properly. The rear sight is also slightly taller than the front, spent some time looking at the sights closer last night while trying to decide what new set to buy.

No, they are the Magpul polymer sights. I'm really surprised at how tight and responsive the springs are. Very happy with the quality of them. Now I know why they are so popular outside of the obvious reason, being affordable.

The RF sight springs were nice, popped up very quickly.
I just ordered a set of Diamondhead sights from Amazon and am going to set the RF sights aside. May try to pull the sight post out somehow and grind the lip down so the post can be raised higher but it is not a priority.

For the price, I may pick up a set of the RF sights too just for spares. I've never had Diamondhead sights but I like the way the look.

Nice boomstick collection!

Especially the CMT lower huh?  Thank you ST! I have the matching CMT upper that I have to get a barrel and gas block for and then they will be mated together. They sit so sweet against eachother, I can't wait....but my wallet is too empty right now unfortunately.

what comp is that on the middle one?

LukeE told me about it, and I picked it up off Amazon from Global Sportsman. I believe it was $33 shipped with crush washer included. I shot his and it works really well, especially for the price.

Looks like they have a couple options...

Like the looks of it! Pretty effective?

I haven't shot mine yet. Luke and I were at the range a week or so ago and I was shooting one of mine. He said, "Here, shoot mine." I couldn't believe the difference it made! I assumed it was a $100-150 brake. When he told me he got it for less than $30 I was really shocked!

Here's a video I found of it when I was researching it (with a brass burnt elbow about middle way through LMAO)

Well, my Bushnell AR Optics 1-4x24 and Burris QD PEPR mount came in and I mounted them last night. Can't wait to get to the range and dial it in. Seems to be really clear and I like the BDC, as well as the looks on the rifle.

Slowly but surely got a couple more done. 1st one, some of you may have seen in the Christmas thread because I built it for my wife. Took it out to the range Saturday and tested it out. Now gotta figure out what scope she's going to want. I reckon I'll pick out one I like and if she don't like it, I'll just HAVE to put it on one my others that need a scope  It's an Anderson lower, PSA parts kit, Magpul Mbus flip ups, MOE grip, trigger guard, and stock, Radical Firearms carbine upper with a YHM Phantom FH. She's pretty happy with it, so that makes me happy. Now for the bad part, I have a task ahead of me. She wants me to do a FDE and pink camo break up design on it. I'm gonna practice some designs on some scrap before I do it on her rifle. She is dead set on this pattern so I'll do it. After all, it is hers and I don't wanna tell her "Don't do that, do this, etc."

2nd is another one for me (unless she says she wants it). Spikes Punisher lower with PSA parts kit, MOE stock and grip, and MBUS rear flip up sight. This is the first time I've tried a PTAC upper. It's the mid-length gas system, all of my others are carbine gas length so can't wait to see the difference. I'm actually impressed with it as far as quality to the eye is concerned. I had myself all pumped up to be disappointed because of their reputation by some. I'll give it a try and since I have several others, if I'm not impressed then I'll just shoot it till it needs a new barrel. This one will be painted in some camo form soon. I'll post it up in my camo paint job thread.

I've got two more lowers completed and waiting for uppers not counting the pistol lower that's done as well. I really wanna finish the pistol next, but we'll see how bad she wants a scope.

Looks good! I've had pretty good luck with some "bargain brand barrels". I've got a PTAC barrel in one of my builds and so far I'm more than happy with it, I'm downright pleased. Like you I was all geared up for it to be second rate in some visible aspect, but I was almost disappointed to see nice crisp rifling, a good even finish, and over all boringly clean machining. Get it out on paper and let us know what you think.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm no sniper so I'm sure it will be fine for me and it'll probably be an extra truck gun and will get used like the rest of them. I have a free float handguard in the safe but I think I'm just going to leave this one the way it is. Plain and simple. I'm going to clean it up and lube it tomorrow and have it ready for a range trip soon. Maybe this weekend or at least the next.
