Anyone hunt with a .45 muzzleloader?

Recommended Posts

I acquired a .45 muzzleloader the other day and can't seem to find any bullets for it.  Seems the .45 has gone the way of the dodo and everybody shoots .50 now.  Walmart doesn't carry them and Dick's didn't have them in stock.  I'd check Gouger Mountain and Bass Pro but it's a pretty long drive for me just to check.  Anyone else using .45 and having trouble finding them?

My son uses these,

along with .357 158 grain Hornady XTP bullets. and 777 pellets.

I almost wish mine was .45 Cal.  My little Thompson Center 50 cal with the 20" Katahdin bbl is very light and kicks the ever-living heck out of me, even with limb-savers and their decelerator stock (2 pellets of 777.  Can't imagine what 3 would feel like).
