Is the tide turning in our favor ?

Gun rights have been gaining ground since the Heller decision from the SCOTUS, next on to the decision to basically make Illinois a shall issue State to today's decision on counties in California requiring residents to show a reason to carry a gun? What a change from two years ago .

I'm not too concerned about a few ultra-liberal states and what they do, I hate it for those who are true 2nd Amendment believers who live in those states, and most likely voted for candidates who can't possibly win but they are a minority living with a state full of Un-American socialists so about the only real thing to do is move out.

Still, think about the last 20+ years, we have gone from special requirment permits, even in Tennessee to shall issue in most states. No more waiting periods in Tennessee and many other states to instant check, in Tennessee we have gone from many areas we couldn't carry to almost any place as far as parks and restaurants etc. I know it's not a complete restoration of our 2nd Amendment rights but it has moved in the right direction in most states and I don't see it going backwards on a state level, it would have to be on a federal level and I don't see that anytime soon. If the dems couldn't get any legislation passed right after Sandy Hook they have far less of a chance of passing anything now. Now the few states passing more restrictive laws, there's not much I can do about that except be damn glad I live in Tennessee.

But never relax. Now, while we ARE ahead, is when we need to be calling and emailing our representatives ad well as representatives in other states. Voice your pleasure so they know it. Too often we contact those that represent us when we are pissed. Do something different and let them know you are happy.

Maybe, just maybe, we can get even more gun freedoms. Like legalization, without registration, of NFA items. Maybe a push to have SBRs and silencers removed from the registry all together followed by the rest.

To me the wave of the court system is to protect personal defense.  Still not clear the boundaries of where this goes, but the ease to conceal carry is becoming easier, still not clear on where.  The threats of restrictions on certain guns I think is still there, and I see no court rulings post Sandy Hook to support or uphold.  I think some Federal judicial rulings would be a real litmus test to confirm if our 2A rights are improving or being chipped away.

What incident could happen that would get new anti 2A legislation passed? The Sandy Hook event didn't get any passed and that's about the worst thing I can imagine.

Probably some more restrictive laws in the New England states and California but not here. Even Canada with a fraction of our population and number of firearms in circulation couldn't make a national registration work. No doubt the liberals will try with some ruse legislation like federal background checks on all gun purchases which in reality is a hidden registration, they have already proposed that and it failed with a dem majority in the Senate. They and the public can't see that background checks on all sales can not account for the 300+ million firearms in private hands now, I said in another thread it's impossible to trace a sale or know when it took place on a firearm bought before any background check law that they may propose. I remember well when the 94 assualt weapons ban took effect, I had no problem buying a MAK90(AK-47) without a bayonet lug and had no problem finding plenty of Chinese and East German 30-rnd AK mags. Actually that legislation was the main motivating factor why I sought out to buy an AK, also back then I bought about 2000 rnds of 7.62x39 for $160. In other words the law was mostly a joke. I really think that law is a big part of the reason why AK's and AR's are so popular now, I bet the numbers of AR's and AK's have more than doubled or tripled since that law was passed, especially AR's.

You should care what happens in those states, because when they have passed enough laws in those states to make them basically unlivable, those same jackasses move to other states and then start the whole cycle again and then are surprised when they get the same results. This is what happened to Washington and Colorado for example. When they find out that Tennessee isn't such a bad place to live, you think they won't be coming here?

Tell that to New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Washington, and Colorado.

I feel sorry for people who live in New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts the same way I feel sorry for women in Afghanistan.  Members of both groups are often stuck in their localities, seemingly powerless to better their lives.  And it is cause for celebration when a liberty-minded individual gets to break free from those places.  You know those scenes in Charlie Wilson's War where all the rich people are lamenting the lives of the Afgans under communism, and they just want to do something?  That is how I feel about those states sometimes.

Truly, with some of New York's draconian laws, it seems like a foreign country.  I would imagine that it must be depressing voting for change and watching the same old stuff get perpetuated. There is probably a sense of hopelessness that can really crush one's spirit in those places.

I guess the difference between the people of those liberal states and the women in Afghanistan is the people of NY, NJ and MA, etc. continue to vote their oppressors into office Edited by Batman

But the hopeless ones aren't neccessarily voting for their oppressors, but still have to live there anyway because of jobs, can't sell their house, family, etc.  Yes, they have the freedom to move out of the state, but their actual opportunities may be slim.  For example, if you specialize in foot and mouth disease research, then Plum Island, New York is one of your only options (until they open its replacement in Kansas).

Unfortunately, the fight over 2A rights will never end.

We might get a small victory by having the senate and house, but they'll be back fighting against 2A rights when they get their left-wing Democrats and Progressive RINO republicans back in power.

And watch out on the local level. Washington just took a huge blow to 2A rights over I-594. Bloomberg and his billionaire cronies are trying to pass anti-2A law/regulations at the state level now.

I don't believe they will consume Tennessee like those other states, look at the last election in the state, conservatives slaughtered liberals even more so than the election before that, Tennessee is pretty solid.

No, republicans slaughtered democrats. A lot of republicans are NOT conservatives. Heck, the entire leadership team in Nashville are not at all conservative but firmly moderate to liberal. They would deny that, but their actions speak louder.

It wasn't that long ago that Colorado was pretty solid too. I remember envying Colorado's gun laws. They can carry on campus. They can open carry without a permit. And until very recently, there were no mag limits, etc. I'm sure plenty of folks in Colorado felt it would never happen there.

My only point is, don't assume it won't happen to you and go to sleep at the wheel. The anti-gunners don't know the meaning of the word "rest."
