Any good microbrewerys around here?

Recommended Posts

Yazoo brewing is in Nashville. I like some of their beers. There is Big River Brewing in Chattanooga.

Knoxville has a few now as well. Saw Works has great beer.

If you are into craft beer do yourself a favor and take a trip to Asheville for a weekend. It's the best beer city east of the Mississippi.

Not on your side of the state but if you ever get over to Knoxville check out the Casual Pint.  I've been out of the bar scene for many years but my wife and I enjoy an occasional trip to the Pint.  They carry about 25 regionally local craftbrews on tap and literally hundreds in cans and bottles.  The atmosphere is very laid back, yet classy.  There are about 5 locations around the Knoxville area.

The Yazoo tour is pretty cool.  More of a history lesson and tasting than an in depth look at the process but worth a spin IMHO.  Pretty inexpensive, you get a souvenir glass and at least when I went generous on the samples.  They're also good folks.  I believe they're started something like 8 or 9 non-profits since they began business.  Personally like to support someone who's about more than accumulating as much cash as possible.

I just moved to the Franklin area from the North Seattle area after an 8 years of being spoiled by awesome micro breweries.  Coming to TN it has been a beer reality check for me.  Ive not found any breweries i would rush to email grandma about.  Though I was impressed with Calfkiller but I have not been to thier brewery and I have only tried 1 of thier beers. Another thing I found was that its hard to find a real German beer selection on tap around the Nashville area so if anyone knows of a good place for German beer let me know.

The great thing about the breweries in TN though is the prices are way better than the Seattle area and the people are much more of a pleasure to talk too.

I will agree that east coast and west coast beers are different. Sierra Nevada and lagunitas are some of my favorites, but to go so far as to say the beers here aren't very good is a stretch. There really are some exceptional beers in this part of the country.

I'm not sure where you're gonna find a selection of german beers, but flying saucer may have something that would interest you.

I third calfkiller. Blackstone is also a favorite of mine. Cool springs brewery has a good one every so often too.

I'll even toss in a nod for jackalope. They're making some pretty good beer.

The jackelope has been the one I've had the last couple of times I've been out. Good beer.

I wish I liked the Yazoo but it just doesn't do it for me. Edited by tnguy

I heard the guys that do that on the radio the other afternoon.  According to them Knoxville is really moving up in the microbrew scene and one of the top 5 microbreweries in the country is here...don't recall which one though.

Top 5 based on what I wonder?

Sure as hell isn't one of the best. There are only a few breweries and none of them distribute beyond Knoxville area that I'm aware. Saw Works probably makes the best beer but it's not one of the best-not even close.

Pretty sure it was based on output.  The hipsters, metro and lumbersexuals love that craft beer and this town is full of them.

I like

Blackstone and Yazoo both. Of course not every offering but they make some good stuff.

Also you should go to The Pharmacy and get some real good German brews on tap. If you need a friend just holler I'm always game :)

I like the beer at Granite City, but the food is pricy and a little underwhelming.
