Glock 20/21 gen 3 SF VS. gen 4

My understanding is the Gen 4 without adding one of the additional backstraps is the same size as the SF.  I don't have huge hands and the Gen 4 21 is very easy to wield.

That was my understanding but just wasn't sure and trying to find a SF locally to put in hand isn't very easy.  And if there was any way that either was smaller in grip I had to be sure! Thanks

I just sold a Gen 3 Sf on here the other day. I have small hands and still could never get used to the grip. I'm waiting to see one of the new longslide G40 10mm to show up. If that doesn't work, it looks like a longslide in a 10mm. Looking to hunt with one. Edited by R1100R

The new 40 and 41 use the current gen4 frames from the 20 and 21. The slides are slim like the 9mm and .40 cal

Not sure if any one out there owns either or both that can answers a size question about the G20/21 SF and the Gen 4. I am looking to find out which of the 2 has a smaller overall grip size?

I have a Gen4 21, I have read that the grip is like the sf model but looking at pictures I think the sf still has more of a hump at the bottom of the grip than the Gen4 without any back straps

I have all 3 and the Gen 4 is a little smaller than the SF. I know they say that the SF is basically the same as the Gen 4 without the backstrap but it is smaller and feels smaller . The Gen 4 is the best fitting to my hand . I was anti Gen 4 but they only make the 41 in a Gen 4 so it was my first Gen 4 .

I just put together a long slide 10 mm and purchased a SF frame for it because I already had a 20 & a 21 in the standard Gen 3 .

I would post a picture of all 3 but I have never figured out how to post pictures on here . I know I am computer stupid , no need to coment . I can email them if you pm me your email address .

"Computer stupid" is not a shameful thing, Keyless. I am an old fart who just barely can type. I just got a smartphone for myself and my wife. We are having quite a time learning to use it/them.

But if we can do it, you can.

As far as pics here, it is a royal pin in the buttocks to do so. I know guys say it is easy, but I haven't mastered it either.

Now, back on track. I just recently traded into a G21, Gen 4. As far as I can determine, the grip and frame circumference is the same as all the model 21 have been.

I did get confused during my deal, thinking it was smaller. But I think only the G41 has a slightly smaller grip size. Very slightly. And the Gen 4 G34 seems to be smaller than the Gen 3 G34.

I compared those two side by side and found that to be true, at least in the one I fondled. I had thought the backstraps were interchangeable on it, but they are only to increase the size and to allow adding a longer beavertail on the frame.

On that looking and comparison, I plan on a Gen 4 model 34 someday.

That's not accurate. The 21 SF and the 21 gen 4 have a slightly smaller grip than the regular 21. I think I read it's a 2mm difference.

The 41 uses the exact same frame as the 21 gen 4. Only the slide is thinner on the 41.

Not arguing the point, but perhaps there are some that are "early" gen 4 on the model 21? The 21 I just got is stamped Gen 4 on the slide, and measuring it with a gen 3 21 it is the same.

Perhaps it is because this is a police trade in?

You know you can't depend on Glock not to do something different. Think about all the hoopla with the Gen 2/2.5/3 identifications.

Couple pics comparing Gen 3 G21 to the Gen 4 G21.
The Gen 3 SF model will be much closer to the Gen 4 size grip.

Given the choice I would choose the Gen 4 over the Gen 3 SF model all day. The new RSA does help tame the gun down just a notch. Plus you get the better texture and mag release 9e4fa9f5fe560c6a4dbfc6fc0cbf6944.jpg

I believe looking at the bottom of the gun where the magazine goes in and holding it so it looks like a D , the Gen 4 looks to be just a little bit smaller than the SF . The SF is smaller than the standard Gen 3 doing it the same way. All 20 and 12 guns will be the same if they are they same type as in Gen 3 , SF or Gen 4 . On the Gen 4 you can add the 41 as the same frame as the 20 and 21 Gen 4. I read some where that the Gen 4 was the same as the SF but mine feels much better than the SF and does not feel or look the same to me .I am going to try and get a picture of all 3 frames side by side  with the magazine out .

Got my hands on a Gen 4 20 today and if the grip where to be cut down to the line that the back straps slide on to then it would be a much nicer fit. I am just not sure that getting a Lonewolf frame would justify the cost for the total package.

Did you mean a Gen 4 G21? Have you been able to check the model 41?
