Hi all, I have received and reported the following tel. numbers to the FTC

call from 213-337-0014 informing me that i could be arrested by the Federal Government for breaking the law.

What law? I could not understand him.He talked with an arabic  accent!( party store or gas station type) dead give away

The number he left to call back was 804-337-3043. That was about the only thing i could understand from the answering machine.

I wonder if obama will protect this guy or build more mosques

Haven't gotten that one, but yesterday someone called asking for my wife. Said something totally unintelligible and I kept asking him to repeat it.

All I could make out was my wife's name, which he had, and something about money owed.

I finally told him I couldn't understand his accent. I think it sounded vaguely middle eastern, but not sure.

He snorted something and said he'd call back, could he have her personal cell number?

I said no and hung up.

No return call yet.

If I don't recognize the number or it's not in my contacts, I don't answer.  Ever.  If it's important, they'll leave a message.  If not, I didn't want to talk to them anyway.

This is what I do on my cell. Our land line is very basic, no caller ID, so when we answer and it's a telemarketer, well, lets just say I have an air horn near every phone :)

Now if I can just get the one place that keeps saying "this is your last chance to lower your credit card rate..."  Tried talking to them but if you get off their script they just hang up.  Tried making the answering machine have the "disconnected service" tone, but still no joy.  Sigh, guess they just love the sound of an air horn in their ears.

I go one step farther, even if I recognize the number I often don't answer.  It's an anti-social trait I guess ...

telemarketers are easy to deal with...as soon as they say the offer just say "can you hold on for one second...?" put them on hold...come back in about 20 minutes, talk to them for 5 seconds and do it again...they wont/cant hang up.

Yes they will, tried this as well.  If they don't get a response right away they'll move on to the next person in the queue.

I've never had it happen...give a response, say you are interested, put them on hold for X amount of time and watch TV take the dog out clean you gun and pick it back up lol never had them not be there when I picked it back up. Just stay "interested".

I've had a few calls from Blue Cross/Blue Shield partners that are legit, but couldn't understand the "accent" either, which I'm pretty sure was just UAUB*, though.

I haven't gotten that call yet but i've heard of it. I'm ready for it, i'm going to tell them they don't have the guts to arrest me and dare them to do it.

I agree. I never answer the phone unless it's the wife and kids.

Oddly enough, I just got a call from "Mike" in the Computer Department telling me there was a problem with my computer. LOL

He sounded Hindu or Pakistani to me.

That right there reminds me of a YouTube video I seen. He caught the hacker in the act and since he was in India he hacked his computer and held it hostage for the $199 that the hacker was trying to get out of him. I have not laughed so hard in a long time to see this scum get what they deserve. If you piss off the wrong people eventually you will get it back in 10 fold.

That would be an awesome thing to do. Wish I had the know how to do it.

You should have said yes and give the local PD phone main office number as her cell phone.

That is exactly my take.

We don't get spam calls much since we eliminated our land-line, but when we did my favorite thing to do was to ask them to hold on, then hand the phone to my 4 year old..  He knew just enough words to keep them talking for a long time, and he absolutely loved that all these nice people were calling to speak with him.

If they can't identify themself, I can't talk to them.
