I like REI a lot. They have good "store brand" stuff. Most of they're items are name brand and price set by manufacturer so it's going to be priced accordingly. They do have a great membership program where you can return items even after use if you are dissatisfied.

The Knoxville store is somewhat smaller than the one near me in Brentwood, but it's a great option for hiking, camping, and outdoor gear

I agree with Lumber. If you're looking for speciality outdoor gear they're likely to have it. Prices on most items will be on the higher side but some items are comparable. There's a reason they are in Brentwood and do quite a bit of business from what I can tell.

They have a good selection of clothing for most sports including cycling and at clearance time you can find really good deals.

I like to just wander around to find stuff I didn't know I just had to have. Edited by Trekbike

Been a member since the mid 90's. Like was already said, good quality, value REI branded items. Best customer service I have seen in any retail establishment. REI Outlet online has really good deals most of the time.

I hate to pay full retail for anything, but for items that you can't find any cheaper, REI membership pays you back a "dividend" of 10% at the end of the year for any non-sale full price items purchased.

I have bought several things from there so far. My lastest purchase was Tilley Winter Hat, which I love!  I too am an REI member and enjoy several perks that non REI members enjoy.  Their online outlet specials are killer!

I do wish they would start selling the Mountainsmith Lumber Day Pack.  I'm wanting one of those bad and I got a $100 gift card just waiting on that item!!!

Haven't stopped in yet, but I want to.

Largest hiking/camping store in Knoxville so far. I don't count bass pro. They chose to locate in Sevier county and I can't stand that place.

I'll have to stop in and try to catch some closeouts. I only buy clothing at closeout prices or really good sales.

Longtime member.  They do have a "garage sale" two or three times a year.  If you are a deal hunter,... camp out for the garage sale.  caaraaazy deals.\\

** edit - garage sales are for members only.  Membership is great.  REI is a co-op, so as a member, you are a shareholder... so to speak.

If you have a Boy Scout at home, or anyone else that likes to camp, hike, bile, or ski, I would highly recommend. The sales personnel are quite helpful when making purchases such as a back pack. I would also highly recommend their membership. They like costco, will credit you back each year a % of your annual purchases.
