Glock 23 mag question

I just noticed theres a "2" stamped on my Glock 23 mags down below the windows. Is this like a newer improved mag? I've heard the .357 sig(which I don't have yet, but will) works better in the newer .40  mags from a Hickok45 video. Just wondering if these are the newer ones that he talked about.

The 2 signifies a later production, but I can not recall why. I don't know even even all of them have it now. I also don't remember if it signifies any changes other than a production period. I wonder if it was to recognize as a pre-period for a state allowing some magazines to be grandfathered into law?

Just speculation but I wonder if this has to do with the weapon light issues that were reported by some Police Departments with Gen 3 .40 models.  The issue was that some Gen 3 22 (and maybe 23?) models issued would fail to feed with weapon lights mounted.  I seem to recall this was fixed with stronger mag springs.  This could be the reason for the updated magazine markings.  The only FTF issues I've had with my RTF 22 were with a TLR and one really old magazine I ended up with.  I threw away that magazine that solved the problem.  I guess it was made during the AWB as it was a 15 rounder that said "Law Enforcement Only."  I probably picked it up out of a bargain bin somewhere.

As far as I know only 15 round .40 magazines had the weak springs. If you added an extension to a G17 mag you may experience the same phenomonem. I have about dozen 23 and 22 magazines from police surplus. I will look to see which ones are marked and which are not.

Once I added a plus 2 extension to a 17 mag. I dropped said magazine on the hard concrete floor of my garage; the extension popped off dumping 19 Gold Dots all over the floor. At that moment I swore off of magazine extensions. I like the XGrip sleeves that fill in the gap when you use a 17 mag in a 19 for example. I use one with a G19 mag in the left side pocket on days when I pocket carry a 26. This, of course, requires the use of cargo shorts with big pockets. It is heavy but a very convenient way to be well-armed quickly. Edited by JReedEsq
