Hi, I am a new member of TGO and I have been searching the internet trying to find the approximate date of manufactory of a revolver I got from my Grandfather after he passed away in the 70's and have yet to find a site that I can input the serial number and get some date of origin.  The story of how he got the gun, as I remember, was a guy needed some money and my grandfather paid him $25 in cash.  I know this gun isn't a rare gun by no means but I wouldn't sell if for 10 times what he paid for it.  Can anyone help me find out the approximate date this gun was made?  The serial number is S846*** and it is a revolver.  I also was fortunate to get my dad's Rossi revolver when he passed away.  It's a 38 special as well.  I would love to know the date it was made also.  Serial number on this revolver is D257***, and again I wouldn't sell or trade either one for 10 or 100 times their current market value.  They mean that much to me

Thanks in advance

Can you post a pic of the SW and give us full serial number? There is nothing to be gained from hiding it:)
Most likely it is a pre-model 10,11, or 45
The S n-frame guns did not go that high

He said it was a .38 special. I am inclined to believe he has a pre model 10.

If he has a model 45, 22lr. He needs to reconsider selling it. The last model 45 I was following sold for nearly $3000.

It takes a lot of control to not sell everything I own for these: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=471213698 Edited by Patton

Patton, those two model 45 revolvers are gorgeous! Thanks for the link, but I think I must just admire them from afar...in pictures. [emoji6][emoji1]
