Question for Open Carry Advocates: What if Muslims Start Doing It?

This article on Alloutdoor.com raises some interesting points.  The headline says Muslims but the article references several groups.  I'm a strong 2A supporter.  Although I prefer concealed carry I respect the rights of those who chose to carry openly.  I'm not taking any position on these comments but they do ask some good questions.

The comments about the Reagan era are interesting.  I can't confirm them because this wasn't on my agenda at the time.  Maybe some can recall this time period.

Quite the theoretical query the author brings up. My opinion is the groups he mentioned are radical groups that fit in the the dictionary under terrorists. (As does the left wing)
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/terrorist
The demonization of firearms was brought by terror as well.

I think if many in society open carried and there were groups that would use them for their twisted un American ways, they would be countered by the majority and dealt with. Edited by Still Ugly

Things like this make my head hurt. I keep getting confused on the Muslim / Islam programs. If you are a Muslim does that automatically make you a terrorist? If you are a believer in Islam but not a Muslim are you a terrorist? Can you be a believer in Islam and the Islamic faith and not be a Muslim?  Is there a line between them that I don't see and if so can someone explain it to me. I have never felt that all people of Islamic faith are terrorists. How do you tell them apart? To see a person from any of the middle East nations, does that mean they are automatically a terrorist? Sorry but I have always had an issue with understanding this? I guess it is the old man Syndrome in me.......................

Islam is the religion, Muslims are followers of Islam.

If every Muslim took every tenet of Islam literally, every immigrant of Middle East descent or convert would be committing acts of terror time now.  Since there are no IED's here in Murfreesboro (which has a pretty decent population of Arab decent) I'm honestly more worried about a distracted driver texting than I worry about terrorism.

They're terrorists (criminals really, I hate the overuse of the word terrorist) when they commit an act of terror.  Till then, treat them like you would treat anyone else.  Be friendly, polite, but have a plan to defend yourself if needs be.

If they are an American citizen and they are doing it legally, I don't care who you worship, I'm fine with it.

You don't have to be a US citizen to carry a heater in TN. Not sure any state requires that, really.

Reagan was very anti-gun.  He is partly responsible for the CA laws and mess, and fought against modern firearms for individuals his entire career.

I have no problem with muslims having guns if they obey our laws --- same as anyone else.   If its a terrorist or an idiot, well better a gun than a bomb...

Impossible.  Reagan is the conservative god.  They still sing his praises and lament life without him.

You could call his record "mixed" on that .

He kicked off some of the major gun restriction laws in Kali. Signed the Mulford Act which ended public carry of loaded guns.  “There’s no reason why on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons.” Signed a 15 day waiting period into law there too.

Supported Brady Bill. Made various public statements about how certain arms should be forbidden. Signed FOPA, which was good, except for the glaring exception of the  machine gun ban (which was passed illegally by Charlie Rangel on a voice vote that clearly went the other way); he could have vetoed it on that part and sent it back, but he was clearly in favor of banning auto weapons period.

Etc.

Saw this same question (approximate) in the discussion in the Hometown forums on AR15.com,

NICK: OK. A person with a gun is walking into a bank. Making a deposit, or robbing it? Tell me how I will know.

JEREMY: When he pulls out the gun and says "I'm robbing this bank!" then you'll know. The same way you'd know if he walked in with a concealed handgun.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way! And he was really a mediocre actor, too.

Don't know about his acting but he was the most patriotic and down to earth in office as I can recall.

Wish we had folks with at least as half of his love for country now!

We have a failed directorate! Idiot monkeys that just follow the norm. Carter? Bawahahahahahah

Reagan is pretty much over rated.  He was a really good actor.

Compared to Obozo Reagan was a God.

VERY true!  But then again anyone on this board would probably make a better President than what we have now... I think.. The jury might still be out on some of you. :)

I guess my one big gripe with him was the Iran Contra deal.  Why were we trying to sell arms to a nation that we might have gone to war with (and might still do so one of these days), to fund a group fighting a guerrilla war in a Central American country that no one gave two craps about?  Those weapons could have been and possibly still might be used against us.

As for Kings Row and Knute Rockne being good movies, I will leave it to you all oldsters that actually grew up with them.  I am far to young at 52, to remember them that well. Haven't seen either of them in a coons age. :D

confused.gifYou have no position on these questions?

What if there were a group of Muslim open carry advocates who called themselves “Sword of the Prophet” and whose avowed mission was to bring Sharia law to the US, and they took to showing up armed and in large numbers outside of churches on Sunday, the way the OC guys do at the state house.

Well… it would be a stupid stand for them to take. A lot would depend on how much the press reported it and how they spun it. Of course some people would be upset, there would probably be violence.

Or what if there were a group of hispanic activist OCers, maybe an offshoot of La Raza who liked to organize armed protests at police stations and court houses, and who openly advocate the “reconquista” of the Southern US?

It would be a small group. Why would they want The Reconquista and have what they have in Mexico, when they are doing a great job of taking the Southwest back with us footing the bill. If they turn it into a weapons intimidations issue; they will lose or be gone.
