Shooting Fun

Recommended Posts

I've started a new shooting game with myself.  I have to deal with competitors all day every day in my work.  For the record, I think business competition is a good thing, except when it applies to me.

All that to say that I don't like to compete in my hobbies.

So, I compete with myself for target (as compared to self defense) shooting.

Had a great time at the range yesterday.  The target, which hopefully is shown below, has 25 bulls eyes on it.  My goal is to hit red, so hits in the outer rings don't count.

It too me 68 shots to hit all of the red yesterday.  Of course, I would like to do that in 25 shots.

Who would have thought that pressing the trigger straight back and focusing on the front sight would be so hard?

I was using my P226 extreme yesterday.  I love that gun.

I like that battleship target, I also shoot against myself too, but I use different guns in between shots, i.e. Glock 17 vs. Sig P226; Glock 21 vs. Sig P220; Colt 1911 vs. Sig P220, etc.  Its fun.  My Sig P220 rules though.

Only hits in the red count? Looks like you still have a few to go. What distance was the target? How big are the bulls? Those targets are pretty cool. I've seen the pool table ones before, but yours are better.

He hit all the ones on one side of the target. The "side" at the top of the target lost and the "side" at the bottom won because they did not have all their ships sunk.

I don't think so. He said he shot by himself. He also said 25 targets. There are 12 on each side and one in the middle. He also said he wanted he wanted to do it in 25 shots. Or maybe he competes against himself. Left handed vs right handed would be neat.

Yeah, I'm competing with myself.  I count them if any of the red is torn, though not all of them are.  I start at the bottom and work my way up, so the top is always better because I've worked out the kinks.

I'm guessing you start out at the bottom middle? How far?

I'm not that sophisticated.  I start at the bottom left, move my way across to the right and then go to the next line.  How would you do it?  Maybe I can learn something.

This was at 15 ft and the red is 11/16th's.

My next comment isn't for Zybysco, but for all of us.  I didn't put the distance in the post initially because I'm better than some and not nearly as good as others and wanted to focus on fun and learning and not who the best shot is.

Not intended to dis you by asking the distance, most of us like to guage our skills by others. There's some really good shooters here...then there's the rest of us.

I doubt I could do what you did. But I'm sure gonna keep trying.

Like you, I shoot for 2 reasons...fun and relaxation. Hoping to get better is an added bonus.

There is no reason to be ashamed of any distance. I'd rather read 5ft vs some idiot saying 50ft. Least then I know you aren't full of it. Or lack modesty.

Thanks for introducing me to the targets. It does look like a way add some fun at the range, solo or with someone. Even a league could be fun with that style. Silhouettes get old after awhile.

I like that game. This is the one we use. It has 5/8" circles and we shoot them at 5 yards. Sounds easy, but it's not. Tons of fun though.

We are doing pretty much of the same thing.  I'm shooting at 5 yards and the bullseye's are the same size.  It is easier than it looks.  I'm exhausted by the time I finish shooting the target.

Got to order some of those. I think It would help me develop better shooting skills in the lower quadrants.

It has really helped my trigger skills.  I would suggest starting at three yards and move up once you well there.  For me, five yards is plenty challenging right now.

Looked at my post and saw that I need to clarify something.

Maybe it's just me, my eyes, grip, or gremlins; but I don't shoot as well at even a slight downward angle on most ranges. It's like I just drop the front sight too much.
