AR carry at Atlanta airport

Legal, yes, questionable the way he did it I have to say yes.  You are certainly going to panic the sheep like that and perhaps get the lawmakers to revise the law.

However the other thing really gets me if the news keeps saying 100 round drum.  I don't see it.  I see a standard Mag.

First pic in video where he was dropping of his daughter and they mention it,  he has the drum on it.

The comments section hurt my head.  I'm really offended that all these people don't like guns.  It hurts my feelings and makes me want to cry.  Why can't I just have my way?  Can everybody just like guns so that I don't have to go hide in my closet and cry anymore?

OK, i re-watched and found that.  Most of the pictures are a mag instead of a drum though.

While I try to remain open minded to open carry as I clearly realize that no road is ever paved without blazing the trail I can't help but think dam it sure does create a lot of unwanted attention along the way.....

I swear gun owners are some of the worse at eating their own. People are NOT going to get used to guns in public, or guns in general, if guns sit hidden in our safes at home (no one in history has gotten/expanded rights by saying home and being quiet.) Yes, it will scare the sheeples at first. However, it's truly amazing how fast people get used to things, and how some of the loudest people at first will quickly shut up because they are lazy about following through. Look at the "gun free dinning" org, it lasted about 6 months at best. This is also a good opportunity to help people understand that simply having a gun in public does not mean you are out to hurt people, but that what you are doing with it makes a difference. Someone who is peacefully carrying is a gun is not a threat, someone who is walking around pointing a gun or yelling they are going to kill people is.

Never in the history of man has it been acceptable by the general public for a man to be carrying a rifle on his person walking about in general public in civilization in America without a legitimate reason for it.

Even in the old west and whatnot, you left your rifle in the scabbard on your horse. Yes, you carried your holstered handgun, but not the rifle in town. Only time a rifle or shotgun was carried in town was if you were law enforcement or protection for a company ( guarding a stage coach or courier) or about to murder someone.

Whether you want to believe it or not the AR-15 is scary and offensive to the general public. That will never change. It is an offensive rifle. If you actually used it, a jury would see you as the definition of carrying a gun looking for trouble. Carrying a rifle is not as convenient as a handgun and is not acceptable and never will be as it never has in the 150 years or so that we have had cartridge fired weapons.

Bingo.  Open carry of a handgun and a rifle are not one and the same.

Rule of thumb is, your pistol allows you to fight your way back to a long gun should the need for it arise, hence the practicality of a truck/trunk gun.  Long guns should be for responding to a threat, or when there is a high expectation of being engaged, which in the civilian world means there are a lot of things that went wrong if you're carrying one for protection, or you're just an attention whore, which this guy clearly is.

This part of the article, plus his YouTube channel, lays out why I say he's an attention whore...

Cooley, a Chicago native who lives in Winder, Ga., came to national attention this week after he took photos of himself holding the rifle in Atlanta's airport, and later sent them to Atlanta's WSBTV, whose report on him started some outrage over his actions online.

And finally, there is this bit.

Cooley served in the Illinois National Guard for 13 months between 1990 and 1991 before he was discharged as a private, according Lt. Col. Brad Leighton, spokesperson for the force. Leighton could not reveal the reason for Cooley's discharge, citing privacy laws, but said an initial enlistment usually lasts about six years.

A medical discharge would be a reasonable explanation, but that quick of a discharge is just as frequently a tell-tale sign of a substandard Soldier who was separated for misconduct.  If it's the latter and not the former, that speaks volumes about his character as well.

Pro gun organizations should publicly distance themselves from this guy. Lots of people want to know why "peaceful" muslims don't condemn radical Islam and just assume it implies agreement. I think the same thoughts will be at work here

Having a long gun behind the seat of your truck or on your four wheeler is different than strapping it on and walking in the airport terminal to attract attention.  There is a time and place for everything and just because it is legal, does not mean it is wise to do.

I don't see the problem.  An AR-15 was carried in public and nothing at all happened.  Things like this will chip away at the media's narrative that AR-15s cause mass shootings wherever they appear.

I totally agree!! Wow, is this a gun owner's website or the discussion area of media matters?!

We/you should be applauding this guy, because he obviously has bigger cajones than all of you. How many of you actually open carry, since it is legal in TN? For years we have been pushing legislation in FL to try to obtain the right to open carry in FL. So far we have not been successful.

A few of you mention that just because it's legal doesn't make it right...so...are you saying gubm'nt should remove his ability to carry an AR in public?! Are you siding with all those people that think gubm'nt should prohibit carrying any firearm...or for that matter, owning a firearm?!

What good is a right if we don't exercise it?

More importantly, if you don't exercise your rights WE WILL LOOSE THEM!

If you think this guy is good for gun rights, I have some real concerns about your logic and deductive reasoning skills. I am not saying don't believe what you believe, but realize you are wrong based on any measurement of common sense.

I don't think we shouldn't have the right to and the government certainly shouldn't tell us we can't but it just isn't common place to do so. And doing it is simply doing to to cause a reaction.

If things get bad enough that I need to carry a rifle around, I won't be too awfully concerned with the law at that point as it will be far beyond what is expected in America.

I've open carried before, and could care less what people thought of me.  But it was a handgun I open carried, not one of my long guns.

Carrying an AR in public, at an airport no less, is a jabroni move.  Posting pictures of it on Facebook, then sending them to a news station to provoke a story, proves this guy is, as the kids say, "full potato."  He most assuredly does not represent my views on what proper gun carry is.  Open or concealed, you don't carry a weapon to prove a point, you carry it to survive a situation you hope to never find yourself in.  You applaud his cajones, I bemoan his lack of common sense.

This guy is an attention whore, and I'm not supporting his "look-at-me" crusade just because he's a gun owner.  From the looks of things, it would seem that being an asshat is at least a part time job for him.
