Where's Dolomite?

Recommended Posts

My brother-in-law has been telling me I should look long and hard at a 300BLK and get one.

So far, I've resisted on the basis of another caliber and cost. But if this should make ammo cheaper, that sure would be an inducement for me.

Just think of Ringo's Winchester 92, fast firing, easy and quick to handle. Or you can call it todays M1 carbine on steroids. The ballistics are more in line with the STG 44. The gun that started modern era  assault rifles.

It is not just limited to 100 yds, But that is enough range for most of us.

The 300 Blackout is the same as 7.62x39 but more reliable to shoot out of an AR. And where it really shines is silenced which out of an AK it is not as quiet as the AR.

The 300BO is also a dream to cast for. It is also more miserly than both the 7.62x39?or 5.56.

But up until now it really is a reloader's caliber. At least if you actually shoot regularly. I can load subsonic ammunition at under a nickel a round and supersonic for about the same as 5.56 depending on bullets used.

I transitioned to this caliber as my SHTF caliber because of few reasons. First, if is s lot easier to cast for. Second, cast billets tend to be more accurate out of the 300bo. It uses 5.56 brass which will be readily available. It can be easily silenced and be extremely quiet.

There is a caliber from the turn of the century that is nearly identical in velocity and was to be used as an "assault rifle". It was going to be used to clear trenches and was fully/semi auto. It was called the Ribeyrolle 8mm.

Here is the gun:

For those needing brass for 300 blackout Brownells has processed 300 blackout brass by "Brass Guys" for $175/1000. I bought once fired 5.56 brass on sale a few days ago and all I had to do was chamfer the necks and run thru neck sizing die before loading. Most if the 5.56 brass was Lake City.
