Candidate Lineup For First Major 2016 Debate

After weeks of grueling polling, Fox News has finally announced the top ten candidates who qualified for their prime-time debate on Thursday.

  1. Donald Trump
  2. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush
  3. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker
  4. Ben Carson
  5. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee
  6. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz
  7. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio
  8. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul
  9. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie
  10. Ohio Gov. John Kasich

The roster was determined by an average of the five most recent national polls. Trump, Walker, and Bush were expected to place in the top, while the real drama was at the cut-off.  Christie and Kasich were both hovering at the edge in recent polling, but surged to the top ten just in time.

Former Texas Gov. Rich Perry, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, former New York Gov. Geroge Pataki, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, and Carly Fiorina will be invited to a separate 5 p.m. ET debate on Fox.

I like it.  I don't care much for Trump in the political arena but he is forcing the politicians to talk about what they always skirt around.  If a huge gaff occurs and Trump is put down, there will be so much of the conversation moved towards what Paul or Cruz have tried to do, that they will slide right in to fill the gap.

Trump somehow got the actual issues to the front, while stepping on the others in the process.  He gives out Lindsey Gramnesty's phone number, Gramnesty responds with a video of him destroying his phone to show off.  Gawker gives out Trump's cell number and he puts a campaign message on it so everyone calling gets that.

Guy deserves credit for playing like a pro, and I can't wait to see what happens at the debate.

"Its not that Trump is really smart...its just that he's smarter than the people he's running against."

OK darnit, where's Netanyahu?

Where's Carly?

Republicans are always being accused of having a war on women. I know her poll numbers are too low for this debate but it would have made a big impression if they made an exception or one of the other candidates to bow out and let her take his place.

A group of 4 in a small discussion would be more beneficial IMO.

She's in the prelim bout, starts in an hour.

If she can pull off being the biggest fish in the smaller pond, might be better than having been in the feature event in the first place.

I must say I've been quite impressed with her every time I've heard her responses to questions. Her take on ISIS and other Mideast issues on Morning Joe yesterday was amazing with its detailed knowledge of the various countries involved, much different from the usual "just hammer them" responses.

Unlike the other candidates, I can't picture Carly misspeaking on anything whatsoever. She is thoroughly professional and well schooled in everything a presidential candidate should be. I'm all for her.

I try to be as informed as reasonably possible so I suffered through that first debate with the minor leaguers.  Here's the rundown:

Rick Perry is talking about the same exact thing he was in 2008, he even stammers exactly like back then - 12th largest economy in the world, we secured the Texas border etc.  Changing every question back to his same few talking points, no matter where it started off at.

Rick Santorum is saying the same thing - I can get things done, I'm different, politicians in Washington don't do anything, but I did a lot, but can't remember anything specific.

Carly Firorina - Tried to tie Trump to funding Hillary Clinton's campaign and said she called him to congratulate him on his choice for running.  Bragged about how many world leaders she knows and that she was in charge of HP.

Bobby Jindal - on the fence about him, he didn't really go after anyone or say anything notable.  Got flustered when the moderator asked him what he thought about Clinton beating him in his own state on the latest polls.

George Pataki - pretty irrelevant from the start, said he will get everyone working together because he did it in NY.  Said he's pro-choice but is catholic and believes life begins at conception.

Jim GIlmore - said he was elected governor, and held a position on advisory panels, so that means he will get elected to president.  Hopefully he falls off the scoreboard soon, seems annoying.

Lindsey Gramnesty - our favorite!  He was talking with sadness like his dog just died today, and with a cadence like a robot.  Sounded like a baritone version of Hillary.  He knows everything about ISIS and his new slogan that was used about 10 times was "whatever it takes, as long as it takes".  I think that's going to be like Herman Cain's 999 plan.

Truncated, but that was about all that happened.  It was almost sort of sad watching it, there were a total of about 2 dozen people in the arena watching it, and probably about the same number of viewers on TV.

To be fair, seems the public wasn't permitted in there for this one, not even sure who the few people on the audience were. Would have to see the demographic about TV viewership though ...

While I agree is was a relative "non-event", I think Carly "won" it, so I do look for her star to rise as some of the "a team" falter. She might wind up being veep pick or something, who knows.

The only thing I liked that she said is that she wanted to give Jordan money to buy bombs and ammo with.

I have to agree with you, I think Carly will move to the "A- Team" after tonight. I could see her as veep.

Sam seemed to have missed her closing, directly calling Hillary a liar three times. Pretty damn significant.

Perhaps Carly is the only candidate that can fully be the "attack dog" without risking perception of being sexist, eh?

The more I hear from her the more I like it. Greta on FOX has a FB poll and she stomped everyone else.

Here is her CPAC speech.

Was editing as you responded ...

Note I just picked her as Veep. :)

I would definitely concur with that being a possibility, as long as it was someone that understands policy as the pres. like Walker, Paul, Cruz or Jindal.  Trump + Fiorina would be a no bueno in my book.

Trump is of course almost certain to fade, just because of who he really has been politically, which is far more liberal than even the least conservative part of the GOP.

I'm thinking that if 4 or 5 are still tightly bunched before Super Tuesday, you might see one go ahead and match up early with a veep to try and gain the edge ongoing.

If election were tomorrow, given the choices we have, I wouldn't exactly gag at pulling the lever for say Rubio/Fiorina.

I don't know man, if Trump plays that 1-5-10-15 tax plan that most of us never heard of, people will be jumping onboard faster than the ship can stay afloat.  He could have Biden as the VP and I would still vote for him with that plan.

He can propose all the taxes he wants, but House and Senate have to pass it before he can sign it.

I think this is a pretty legit plan, it's as close to a flat tax as we would ever see.  Makes the poor old helpless professional victims feel like they are making out paying 1% while those mean old corporations have to dish out 15 times that amount.

It sounds great to them until the communist news networks begin reporting alleged "studies" that his tax plan nullifies their government bennies.
