Remington 760/7600 .22 Hornet Questions.

Sidewinder

Recommended Posts

Has anyone on here ever owned one or hunted with one?

Thoughts on this gun as a middle Tennessee "coyote"/ varmint gun?

Do the receiver rails scollop out like they do on the larger calibers?

Which is the better gun, the 760 or the 7600?

Thoughts on one in .223?

I appreciate your input on this make and model, as I'm thinking about one in .22 Hornet.

The data shows that they built at least a couple of million in the .22 Hornet and .223 models, so there should be some around. I would like to have one, even though I have other guns that would fill the predator/varmint hunting nich. Anybody got one?

What data are you referring to? There may be a few in 222, but I've never seen either in 22 hornet, and can find no reference of such. I seriously doubt they exist. In ny opinion, the entire rifle would need to be redesigned to accommodate such a small cartridge.

A model 3 Ruger would be a cool rifle in 22 Hornet if you don't object to a single shot.

I think the Ruger 77 can still be had in .22 Hornet, as well as the CZ 527 and I think Cooper makes one.  Just for grins I have an older single shot H&R in .22 Hornet and when that thing ejects a round it slings them about 20' behind you.  Just off the top of your collective heads who else makes current "mass" production rifles in .22 Hornet.

Gregintenn, now I'll have to go back and research my research, as I can't remember exactly where I read the write ups. Also, seems I saw some on Gun Broker, from a search. I could be mistaken...the ole grey matter don't work like she used to! If I can locate it again, I'll reference it here.

Well, I think you guys are right about no Remington 760s chambered in .22 Hornet. However, I did find the .22 Hornet mentioned under the geneology of the 760/7600 in an article bt the Remington Society.

I sure like the idea of a .22 Hornet in a pump action platform. Maybe I should look at a CZ 527 in .22 Hornet.

I do too. A model 14 Remington or Colt Lightning would have been a perfect platform for the Hornet.

I've shot a friend's CZ 527 in .22 for quite a  few shots using his hot handloads. Very nice shooting rifle with the right loads in that caliber.

The CZ 527 appears to be a class act. I've pretty much decided I want (not need!) a Savage 24V series D, chambered in .22 Hornet over a 20 gauge. But, I've not been very successful in finding one. I'd hate to buy any gun sight unseen, unless it was factory new. So, I'm basically looking in the local area... and within a reasonable driving distance. So, if you know of anyone with one, that would like to sell it, or do some trading, please let me know. Thanks.

I can't comment as to the gun, but my old boss back in NY got a new Rifle that was .223 and he took it out a few times before I left... LOVED IT. Said he was shooting 2" groups at 100 yds out of the box, 3" @ 200 yds. Never did any further testing.
