Just a quick look at some figures......

 

Number of Deaths related to firearms in TN =  935  (2011)

  

Number of Deaths related to Drugs in TN = 3546 (2013)

 

About 1/3  of the drug deaths were accidental, another 1/3 suicidal.  Compared to a less than 1% accidental for guns, and well over 50% suicidal.  Now I don't know how that figures out to most people, but to me, drugs are certainly more dangerous than guns and there seems to be a strong indication that mental illness is a consistent issue with both.

I think that's a non-starter in the debate for hearts and minds of the ignorant.  Reason being, drugs are already illegal.  935 deaths with firearms?  Just think about how many lives would be saved if we made firearms illegal too!!!

 

I know, it doesn't make sense to logical people, but that's not who you're dealing with.

 

I agree with your point, of course.

Keep in mind that many of these drugs are legally prescribed.


True. If making an apples to apples comparison, I'd look at numbers of deaths related to prescription and over the counter drugs, and not include illegal narcotics.
