Firearms trust

Recommended Posts

Shug, I switched to one after I was in the military for my class III weapons. Let me dig in the class III section, I know there is a thread on this somewhere. Is he wanting to put all his firearms in a trust or just his NFA items (silencers, sbr/sbs, mg's, aows, etc?)

Ok I know i read one on here but dang if I can't find it. So here are the pros. I was in the Army but I paid taxes in Tennessee as my home of residency and used my parents address. Because I moved all the time and often to states that were not friendly for NFA items, it was easier to do a trust and make my dad a co trustee, meaning they could stay at his house at the residence without me and nobody would get in trouble if I wasn't there and lets say the ATF showed up (unlikely) or we got robbed (more likely). And when I was stationed in a place that was gun friendly, i could fill out the temporary transfer and take it for a few months and keep it at my house in another state since I was a trustee as well. For $200 its totally worth it. In most cases it has made transfers go a lot faster as well.

Supporting member here, Chip Cain at Cain Lawfirm is you man. He makes it easy. He did mine and I never went to his office even once. You'll need an email address to trade emails with the man, and you'll need access to a notary with witness capability. I say that they'll need witness capability, I went to my bank, they do free notarizations but refuse to notarized anything that needs witnesses. (stupid!) so I used a local lady who took care of it.

He will emai you a little questionnaire and then prepare it in a file that you can print out. He give detailed instructions and after you notarized the papers, it's done. No filing with some guberment bureaucracy. Easy.

Make copies of the WHOLE THING and put the master copy away in your safe. Take a copy to your nearest NFA dealer, buy whatcha want, .........and wait....and wait...and wait.

I will also add, be meticulous. Keep everything and make copies.

I just got my stamped approval yesterday (after five months!) for my suppressor. I made a copy of the stamped approval paper and put it the buttstock compartment of my rifle in case Barney Fife shows up.

+1 on this. I keep the originals in my gun safe and keep a binder of copies in my truck. And don't name your trust something that will get your PeePee slapped when John Law comes around like "The Government I Don't..Trust" or something. On my binder I even posted my name and this to make sure they know we are playing for the same team. 5ad846ca2adcd6af0de5044c981eba5c.jpg

Thank all of you for your replies, WarPig that is pretty much what he wants. he is stationed in Calif and they don't allow anything. He wants some class 3 arms and a few suppressors. Guess he knows if I'm storing this stuff I'm gonna  play with it. {keeping me safe and above board with the paper work} So as a co-trustee I'll be able to. Also I'll keep numerous copies of the paper work at different locations. Cause I've learned not to trust anybody....Caster thanks for the heads up on the law firm

My dad was in the same boat. I used John Wells for mine. Another A+ lawyer for this. He will help during and after for any needs. He is south of Nashville. You said southeast so I am assuming you are looking for someone near Chattanooga?
