Anyone running night sights on their AR?

I was reading some fictional SHTF book a while back and the auther brought up a good point. At night, it's going to be pretty difficult to hit anything with iron sights. Let's pretend your red dot or other optic isn't working for whatever reason.

Has anyone invested in tritium iron sights that are worth recommending?

Ditto... been thinking about this as of late also. One has an EoTech the other is iron sights... both with a light, but still

And it's not that farfetched to think something could happen to your main optic. It doesn't have to be something as unrealistic as an EMP to destroy your red dot or whatever you run. That's why I'm looking into it.

I have 2 sets of the polymer Troys. They are great right off the bat but get dim real quick. Its better than nothing at short distances. (Or if you had a real soft light you could recharge them with minimal spillage)

Having said that...night fights are more of a guessing game than an art at any real distance from what I have seen. And the up close stuff is usually shooting near where you saw the last muzzle flash. A mag of tracers and an additional 30 or so guns shooting in the same direction is much more efficient if ya can scrounge it up. ;)

Are yours not Tritium?  I had a set I had an issue like that but found they were not actually Tritium but some glow-in-the-dark stuff; Tritium should take years to dim.

So the package said they were but I swear they have like a paint coating because they dim and brighten as they are in light. Maybe i got bamboozled when I ordered them as well. I figured it was some BS cost cutting thing they did to minimize the amount of tritium they used.

Most true Tritium should be vials, not painted on.  That was why I know mine were not Tritium.

Troy makes polymer BUIS?

Nope. Just went to the garage to see their markings and my polymers are diamondhead. Says they are made with a cheaper alternative to tritium. (One was still in the package awaiting an sbr upper) My troys on my 300 are irons but they dont have tritium in them so I couldn't tell ya how they are. But the diamondhead polys are weak.

Got ya. I thought maybe that's what you meant. I wanted those for a bit but I was afraid of that very thing. Dolomite posted a recipe for a mixture of glow in the dark paint he uses on his sites that I have yet to try but need to. If I can find it I'll link it, sounds like it may work to paint on your diamondheads.

I walked around the dark yard last night with it and the StreamLight.... it seems to help some in certain light conditions, but when you've got a target close the white light washes it out....

I have a red lens for that StreamLight, probably mess around with that some to see what kind of difference it makes. The light is just so damn bright that if your target is within 50 yds.... your eyes adjusting throws everything off.

I'm not expert in this stuff though.

1984.Fort Sill,Ok.Basic Training was the first time I ever saw night sights. They had some M16s set up with tritium front sight posts. With good moonlight you could make consistant hits.

Is that Tritium? Because it just says "luminescent" on the site.

Non Tritium

"Glow Characteristics: The Luminescent (Glow) Stripe glows very bright when charged and the glow brightness dissipates gradually in darkness."
