Semi Auto Rifles of WW2

Recommended Posts

So A fellow TGOer and I have sort of been putting together separate collections of military surplus rifles. Collectively, we account for many of the more common designs. Thought I'd show a few pictures of my two favorites in my collection.

I may put up some pictures of my M1 Carbine later. I am currently bidding on an FN49 on gunbroker, which had the potential of being competition to the Garand, had Germany not invaded Belgium and delayed the rifle development.

Feel free to post pictures of your WW2 era semi auto rifle. Anyone have a G43 here!? I know someone has a 41 Johnson Automatic!

Wow, Ramjo sees it exactly the way I do.

The M1 Garand is an awesome gun.  I would put it at the top of the list of best guns of all time considering technology available when it was produced.

Gen Patton and I view the Garand the same.

Of course, how can anyone fail to appreciate Russian rifles?  His SVT 40 is a gorgeous gun.  I don't have one, though suspect it would be one of my most prized guns if I had one.

That stock kinda makes my SVT40. It had a broken down stock when it arrived and I bought this one finished off eBay and still didn't break the $1000 mark. Currently the cheapest one on gunbroker is around $1300

Sorry guys but she stays with me [emoji41]

I have a genuine question for you. It says they had the rifles converted to 7.62x51 NATO. Will the rifle safely handle the pressures of .308 without causing extra wear on the gun?

I don't think there would be any problem with 7.62x51 NATO. Some of them were in .30-06 and 7.65x53. A lot of the 7.62 ammo is not as high pressure as standard .308 ammo.

That's what I'm wanting to know. If the .308 will hurt it or if I should stick with the NATO loads.

This is why you should come to my house and reload your own 308 cartridges.... That way you don't hurt your gun
