It is a bit disturbing... I too carry the 124gr Gold Dots.

But I'm not going to get too wrapped around the axle over one incident, particularly if the NYPD is involved.

I don't know which Speer Gold Dot load it was in 9mm, but Georgia State Patrol had a pretty disturbing incident where a head shot through a windshield failed to incapacitate. In fact, the suspect was not even hospitalized. This occurred outside of Atlanta last June.

I wouldn't judge ANY handgun ammunition based on a shot through angled laminated glass. That's a low percentage shot period.

I am most impressed that 5 of 9 shots missed their target in NYC and only one of those 5 rounds hit a bystander.

I am thinking that the more likely scenario is that 8 of 9 shots missed their target and, since one of the errant rounds did hit a bystander, the NYPD doesn't want to admit that 'collateral damage' could have been much worse and so they are peddling this nonsense that the jacket stopped some of the bullets..  I am thinking that only one round penetrated the Carhartt jacket because only one round actually made contact with the Carhartt jacket.  Instead of admitting that this was a failure of skill, training or whatever where these, two officers are concerned, however, New York's response will be an attempted ban on Carhartt jackets.

I completely agree with this.  I think the NYPD are lying liars and that the journalist doesn't know enough about guns to catch them.

Four of the shots that cops fired at a madman waving a knife in Midtown failed to penetrate his jacket — which was not bulletproof — and the NYPD will now check the weapons for malfunction, law enforcement sources told The Post.

“The bullets we have may be defective and that’s very disturbing,” one source said. “When we fire our weapons, we want to make damn sure that our bullets hit our target — neutralizing our target.”

A sergeant and an officer fired a total of nine rounds at 46-year-old Garry Conrad on Wednesday, with one of the shots killing the depressed Broadway stagehand who refused to drop the blade at West 49th Street and Eighth Avenue.

Four of the bullets got lodged in Conrad’s Carhartt jacket, sources said, adding that he was not wearing a bulletproof vest.

OK, all you .45 ACP guys can dog-pile on the smaller calibers!

All of the .45 ACP guys can dog-pile on the smaller calibers, but I'll just leave this here.

Technically 9mm is one of the better penetrating pistol rounds.

Can we expect that Carhartt will use this in an advertisement for their products?

I doubt it. Carhartt sells plenty of products without polarizing their target demographic. I would say most are pro gun, but some that aren't wouldn't like it and may not buy Carhartt and go elsewhere. Not to mention getting unwanted attention from less desirables (liberals) in the media. Also , Carhartt material isn't going to stop a properly functioning 9mm, and that's a dangerous thing to falsely advertise.

Probably what happened, but you never really know how you'll do in a life and death situation until you're in a life and death situation. I know a guy that can shoot and he had an intruder break into his house. The BG had his right hand up at my buddy and his left hand by his side. He said he shot at the guys face and hit him in the left pinky finger. The shot ended the fight so no other shots were made, but to this day he has no idea how it happened.
