Farewell Garrison Keillor....

Recommended Posts

No, he hasn't died fortunately, just last time around from A Prairie Home Companion,  after 42 years.

Apparently he'll stay on as producer for a while as the new whippernapper takes over, but no way can it ever be anywhere near the same.

Makes me feel rather older than usual, and since Garrison is older than me, guess he's feeling it too, sigh.

At any rate, last time around for him Sat. at 6pm Eastern. You fans know where to find him on your NPR affiliate, and if you want to SEE it live too, just go to PrairieHome.org for the video stream link that will appear about 5pm.

I'm hopeful Chris Thile was a good pick for a replacement.  Time will tell, I guess.

Don't take it too hard, Mac.  I read a long interview with Keillor the  other day, who stated that he still has a lot of creative stuff left that he wants to do. The show kind of had him boxed in, so he had to let it go - a second time as it turns out to give these other opportunities some time.

I read another piece the other day talking about how NPR is having a bit of an existential crisis. A lot of their hosts and their listeners are getting older.  The older Magliozzi brother died last year. Terry Gross is in her 60's. Now Garrison Keillor is retiring. And a lot of young listeners are turning to podcasts and other formats.
