New Assault Weapon ban in Massachusetts

can the AG really do that without the state senate or governor or anything like that?

Yes, because it’s just an opinion of the law. Cops aren’t bound by it and Judges aren’t bound by it. A Judges ruling in case law would trump his opinion.

But it’s a big risk for FFL’s or citizens to take.

Massachusetts politicians are hypocritical, not stupid.  As long as none are sold inside the state, they'll let S&W sell ARs to anyone else in the country and wet their beak from the business taxes they get to collect.

It will be interesting to see if they have the cojones to do what Magpul did to CO.   I'm so hoping that's the case.

Magpul's cajones were only as big as the tax breaks and offset funding they were not so subtly shopping for from other states.  While the financial motive of such a move it is axiomatic, they didn't leave Colorado as an exclusive act of conscience as their PR narrative pushed.

As to Smith & Wesson...it would take a lot to make them move.  They've been in Springfield, MA for a long time, and it's been a good area for them.  Take a look at the pictures in this article, and you'll see that it's just not a pack up and move kind of thing.  Throw in the potential loss of institutional knowledge depending on how many workers wouldn't go with them if they left, and it's not worth the hassle unless it becomes an imperative.  Mass won't push them to that point.

I have a good friend in mass who has been active on this since this AG planned this move as a ploy to get on hillarys cabinet is Hillary wins.
All of the gun shops have had massive close out sales, guys were dumping their bank accounts to buy before the deadline. And yes mfgs are ready to leave in droves. This a waited until the last elected official left the state for the rep convention in order to push the directive through unchallenged. Smart move for a sorry ass lawyer, but it worked. The good guys believe it'll take 6 mos to clean the mess up while the witch hunt is on. Pretty crappy stunt to pull..

Smith & Wesson gives $500,000 to fight Massachusetts assault rifle ban.

Sig Sauer donated $100,000.

That a good thing. Though I doubt it will do much good. They should have put that money towards a move to another state.

If I were a state legislator here I would push for giving S&W and any other gun manufacturer’s free property, and tax breaks.

$600,000!

I'm thinking it would only take about $2,500 to fix it.

Semi-automatic “assault” weapons are banned in Massachusetts. Yet 10,000 of the guns were sold in the state last year, Attorney General Maura Healey said Wednesday.

Gun manufacturers create supposed “state compliant” guns by making slight changes in the weapons — removing a flash suppressor or telescoping stock — Healey said. That ends now, she announced in a press conference and Boston Globeop-ed. On Tuesday, letters went to the more than 300 gun dealers in the state letting them know they can no longer sell these weapons.

“We put gun manufacturers and gun dealers on notice that we’re cracking down on the sale of illegal assault weapons,” she said.

Another leftist that doesn't understand what "Shall not be infringed" means.

And why is it the left wants to disarm the citizens of the U.S. but they have armed body guards.

The Bill of rights protects us from the government!

It's the idiot liberal Dems that are bad. The Dems are the only ones wanting to take away our guns and liberties.

Yeah, those idiot liberal Dems like Mitt Romney who was governor of that state and pushed through yet more gun control during his term.

You can sure spot idiot liberal DEM/RINO governors from communist gun control states. He was also father of Romneycare  that turned into Obamacare where you can save $2,500.00 a year, keep your own doctor and insurance plan. :panic:That's why he lost in 2012 b/c everyone knew he was a RINO. And it looks like Hillary, another idiot liberal Dem/Socialist with an anti-gun agenda is gonna be elected in November.:wall:

You hit my point exactly - just having an 'R' by their name doesn't mean they aren't really ultra-liberal idiots nor does it mean they are on our side.  I believe that most politicians - especially at the federal level and largely at the level of state governors, as well - would like to see more gun control.  I think that they are painfully aware that the real reason we have the Second Amendment is to keep them in line and give the People recourse if they turn tyrannical (or maybe I should say 'more tyrannical than the citizenry can stand') and, as such, I believe that most of them would like to see that ability stripped from us.  Our own governor is a case in point. Heck, for that matter look at Ramsey - he trumpets gun rights when he wants to get re-elected but then when real legislation comes up that would benefit gun owners/legal carriers he guts the bill and sells us out.

I will just mention, again, that the impetus for a lot of the gun control at the federal level came from legislation passed in California.  Those laws were passed during the gubernatorial tenure of the lord high potentate of all Republicans, Ronald Reagan with his full support and his help to push the laws through.  This was same Ronald Reagan who later in life wrote a letter in support of the Brady campaign.  What I am saying is that if folks believe that most Republican politicians are really 'on the side of gun rights' then all that really means is that their BS and propaganda are working.
