Glock 34 or Glock 40

For whatever reason the Glock bug has bitten me again. This time it's over longslide models, the 34 or the 40. I'm aware there is a difference between 9mm and 10mm. Problem is I can think of equal pros and cons to each.

34, can use 17 magazines that I already have for my 19. Seems like there are more aftermarket parts avaliable.

40. Can be used for hunting. I don't own a 10mm.

What else is there that can be a tie breaker.

Overall the G-34 is going to be more economical to feed and operate as well as having a lower felt recoil which equates to less fatigue. While I'd consider a proper 10MM Norma Magnum load in the true 41 Magnum equivalency for hunting I'd be less enthusiastic with the .40 S&W for that purpose. Were I handgun hunting it would be in a larger caliber.

My $.02, if you're not getting a 40MOS to add a red dot, why pay for the MOS system. If it's the long sight radius that draws you, get the 34. The long sight radius is nil when using the red dot. If after velocity, you can get 6" barrels for the 20.

For the haters, .40s&w gets a decent bump in the 35.....

I have everything to reload but I don't do a whole lot of reloading. So all I would need would be the dies and components for 10mm and ultimately I would reload for it.

The two I'm looking at are the mos models and within $20 in price.

Well, the 34 has cheaper ammo, whether it's factory or reloads. Share ammo and mags with your 19 and if you have a 9mm carbine that uses Glock mags, fairly common, now or in the future. Gets you the most out of 9mm ballistics in handgun format. Would be an excellent option if you ever did competition shooting. Very fun all day range gun. Very common ammo.

The 40 has more powerful ammo. Perfect hunting pistol. The only true magnum autopistol round IMO. With a 15-round magazine full of max pressure loads, it's a lot of firepower to hold on one hand. 6" barrel is getting the most out of the 10mm in handgun format.

With respect to making a decision, unfortunately I don't see a clear winner. One now and one later?

G40 offers more power and can be converted to different calibers. It's bigger and weighs more. And is near or at the top of the list for Semiauto hunting. But it's not a substitute for a hunting rifle. Typically you don't find mags and accessories as easy for it. Ammo can be harder to find.

G34 is what it is 9mm. It's slightly smaller and lighter. It's not ideal at all for hunting. But what pistol really is compared to a hunting rifle? You can find mags and accessories pretty much any where for it. Ammo isn't at all hard to find.

Really it comes down to what you want more. Both are big and aren't very practical in my opinion.

Just get the one you want.....more.  lol

Good luck.

My good brother G, hope you are well! I say go 40 all day long! I am a 10 mm guy and feel it is one of the better and most versatile calibers out there. From mild to wild you can have it all! It really is a reloaders dream. What a wonderful package the new 40 is from what I've read, it is on my short sit.  I have two 20s,a 29, and numerous non-glocks that make me smile every time I crank one off! There is just something about that kinda power in a proven design that just works for me! Post up some pics when you get it!!
