Description: Trying to decide between a smaller carry gun and a full size duty gun? Well the latest 45 ACP Springfield XD Pistol is two guns in one. This new 45 is a 4 inch barreled pistol with a shortened grip frame for easier carry. But each gun comes with two magazines. A 10-round compact magazine and a 13-round Service Model magazine with Springfield XD Gear X-Tension™. That means a simple change of the magazine converts this 10 + 1 round compact into a 13 + 1 round service model. And of course, whether in compact or full sized form, the Springfield XD's Point and Shoot Ergonomics™ means that big or small, the Springfield XD fits in your hand like no other.

Pros: Compact size, light weight, durable, 45 caliber
Cons: Melonite finish still isn't as nice as Glock Tenifer, extra mags are still hard to obtain

This gun replaces a Glock 23 (.40SW) that I had previously and serves as my daily carry weapon. I would have given the product a 10 out of 10 rating were it not for two nagging issues:

#1 - While the melonite finish is certainly superior to the coating that Springfield / HS Arms had used in the past, it still isn't as rugged or dare I say attractive as the Tenifer process that Glock uses. My Glock never showed holster wear, but the XD45 is already showing a few signs.

#2 - As of this posting, extra magazines are still hard to obtain either directly from Springfield or from resellers. It took nearly three weeks for the spare mags that I ordered to arrive directly from Springfield. Hopefully this will iron itself out with time.

All told, I am pleased with the purchase and please with the gun's performance. It's a good, solid and so far very reliable firearm. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants .45acp "punch" in a polymer firearm perfectly sized for concealed carry. It's not too small and definitely not too big.

Pros: Compact, reliable, awesome grip-the gun feels like it was made for my hand...and of course .45 caliber
Cons: I didn't like the stock sights.

I purchased this gun, with a set of sights at the Franklin Gun Shop. Great service there, by the way. They installed Meprolight night sights while I waited. This gun uses Sig 228 sights and is scary accurate with them. I shoot really tight groups with this gun. I've fired 500 rounds for the "break-in" period, and it's been 100% reliable. Not a single problem. I carry 230 grain Speer Gold Dot JHP for personal protection. At home, I swap out the 10 round magazine for the 13 round magazine I use for home defense, with an M-3 light on the rail. I really have to give this gun a 10 because I would have replaced the stock sights anyway with night sights.
