Pros:
|
Glock reliability and durability. Light weight. Medium form factor. 13rd magazine capacity.
|
|
Cons:
|
Partially unsupported chamber means shooting reloads is a very bad idea.

I recently sold with tremendous regret my Glock 23. I will own another one soon.
In my opinion, this would be the perfect self-defense handgun were it not for the partially unsupported chamber design that makes shooting reloads a very bad idea. This "flaw" if you can call it that is what lends the Glock 23 to suffering from the notorious Ka-Boom phenomena.
That said, if you are looking for a compact, light weight, rugged as hell, reliable as hell handgun with good punch and better than average magazine capacity, look no further than the Glock 23. In my opinion it is the ultimate bridge between 9mm and 45acp worlds. And as long as you shoot factory ammunition (even factory reloads) you should be just fine and most likely will never ever experience the dreaded Ka-Boom.
I miss mine.

I love this gun. Great feel, good dimensions, and very concealable.

This is the best all around Glock for self defense, carry and shooting in IMHO and I think over the years I have owned just about one of everything and two or more of many of them. I would not worry about the Kaboom problem, or about shooting reloads, if they are done well. The only kaboom I have ever experienced is with factory ammo and a G22. The kaboom phenomena is not relegated to the G23 but has happened across the board, randomly with new and reloaded ammunition. I believe it has much more to do with a weak web in the casing and the unsupported chamber in the Glock than anything else. So I would never let that stop me from owning one of the finest handguns ever produced.

My favorite gun (out of the seven that I own) and my everyday carry gun, as well as the gun I use for USPSA, IPSC and other training. Add night-sights for the ultimate self-defense gun. Very easy to use and rarely malfunctions without operator error. Yes, it can be slightly picky about ammo, though - it definitely does better on high-quality factory loaded ammo. 16-round mags available. Don't leave home without it!
