  3. Thanks for the feedback so far folks.  I'm not going to carry through with the idea.  It was cathartic to just get it out of my system.

  5. I vote keep it. Obviously you have emotional ties to it. It's not like an animal you don't have to feed it, it doesn't cost you anything if you don't drive it. New cars just don't have the soul the classics do. If I won the lottery (which I don't play anyways) I would have a TON of restored/modified older vehicles. Even if it's only rarely driven, keep it. You won't come across anyone else driving one just like it. There is a certain pride of ownership that comes with a built not bought vehicle that you can't get from anything else.

  6.   Well, I gotta admit I give BHO a bit more credence on this one that most of his decisions. Not that it ain't political to a certain extent, but to be fair, would a Republican president allow such an end run around the confines of sequestration for funding some part of government favored by liberals?  I doan thin so, Lucy.   The fact that it's the military is of course somewhat galling considering BHO's long onslaught of same, but then again, the Budget Control Act of 2011 had overwhelming GOP support in the House, so it's not like the military having to live within the same proportional constraints is suddenly some big surprise or anything.   - OS

  12. It's been a while since this happened but yes, we had someone post a bunch of stuff for sale and then try to reverse charges a few months later.  After going back and forth with the member's bank over it, I finally just told them to refund the person and I banned them permanently from the site.   The more I think about the notion of just taking the high road, the more I think it's probably the right idea.

  13. sell it.  vehicles that are not driven often will sooner or later will need more time, work and money to fix things that go bad from setting.  been there, done that, got the t-shirt.  last year i sold my one owner 1988 f150 because i was not driving it and when i did problems came up.  so out came the bill fold to buy parts and time used to fit the problems.  i was hard to sell something that has been with me for so long.

  14. I like the change.  I didn't shoot a non optic M16/M4/M4A1/HK416 during my last 10 years in the Army. Today I have to backward train a new competitor to shoot with iron sights. I often see multiple combat tour veterans who have never fired an M16A2.

  15. I got an 86 Toyota truck my parents bought new. When my mom passed away and my sister was thinking of getting rid of it, I shipped it from California to Nashville because of the sintemental attachment. I have people leave me notes all the time about wanting to buy it and even though I don't use it enough, she's not going anywhere unless it will help someone out. Keep it.

  16. it is an asset. Never sell an asset.   I went thought this when I bough the warden a newer car.  I could sell the old Taurus or put a few bucks into it and use it as my daily driver. I opted for the latter.  Painful getting the bad things fixed, but a joy to drive instead of my truck for the work commute.  Saves 40% on gas too. My thoughts were that the Taurus is an asset even if it costs me money at the start.     Never sell an asset.

  17. I vote keep it. Been there too many times and regret most of my decisions like this. What little money I got out of said vehicle, disappeared so fast my head spun.

  18. FYI, they are taking orders again as of the 16th. First up of course is the holsters they lost in the fire and then the pending orders. Good to see them back in production and especially so quickly - I was expecting a few months.

  20.   The 1911 transfer isn't even a consideration in this bill for the White House.  This fight is over sequestration, and the Democrats are going to fight to make sure domestic spending gets a lift alongside defense.       If anyone is playing games with the defense budget, it's all the members of Congress (Democrat & Republican) who use it to send money to their districts (or state for Senators) in general for things DoD doesn't want.  It could be caped at $450 billion, with the force lean, mean, trained, and ready to roll if it wasn't for all the parochial interests cocking it up.

  23.   Well, Republicans called his bluff, and found out he wasn't bluffing.  The funding for the defense department is good until early December along with the rest of the government, thanks to the continuing resolution passed a few weeks ago, so that gave him a lot of cover to do this and not have it become an operational impact across the force.  The only thing impacted are contracts that are on hold from being finalized until the money authorized to pay them.  Most, if not all of the current contracts should be covered under the CR.  I know mine was when I was working under a DoD or Army contract.   I'm thinking the White House really wants this settled on their terms outright, or they might use it as leverage when the talks on a new budget take place soon.  They give Republicans the money here in exchange for money somewhere else...that kind of deal.  After all these years, the President knows he can't go into the debt ceiling talks, and a budget negotiation after caving on this without getting something in return first.   The 1911 transfer to CMP is just caught up in the bigger fight.  But since it's not a money issue, it's more than likely to stay in the final bill no matter what deal is made, which it has to sometime.

  28. Well, I have tried about all calibers out there and I have settled on 380's for the most I feel comfortable with for Home and carry. I know a lot of people will say they are just not enough fire power but with the right ammo they do a damn nice job in a gel test. ...........jmho

  29. Even though I am now in M'boro I still use Guns 'N More in Smyrna.  I will say that they are very competitive on pricing though.  The last time I transferred in an el-cheapo AR lower they had the same one there for nearly the same price OTD after you factored in shipping, etc.  If it is a common model of something you might want to call and check their on hand or ordering availability/price first.

  34. How about WE, as in staff, use the feedback system we have. If a member decides to be a turd behind the scenes leave him a negative feedback. With everyone having positives a negative would really stand out. We already have it in place and other members can see the feedback unlike our warning point system.   Or if you want you can turn me loose on them. I don't care what they do to me as I already have experience in dealing with internet turds and have all the time in the world to hold them accountable.

  35. Nice.   There is a (sport?)bra holster out there (maybe several by now), if you think that might work better long run, but if what you have is working no need to dump money into it.

  36. Hey guys. I wanted to say thanks again to Mike D. aka LawEnforcementSalesTN. A while back he offered a great flight simulator setup for fee in the Trading Post. I took him up on his generous offer and my now 15 year old daughter is 6 flight hours into her private pilot license! I just wanted to share this. I know I haven't been very active lately. I have been pretty busy and mostly too broke to shoot much lately. Here is one of the many reasons why. A pic of her very first lesson's preflight inspection: Thanks Mike! -southernasylum

  40. I also support the idea of a waiting period or post count minimum before listing in the classifieds. I've seen guns that I'm interested in but because they have no history on the forum I decided against dealing with them.

  41. I like the idea of a Hall of Shame for people who provided so much entertainment value here in threads that lead to them getting banned.     As for people stiffing you,  unless it is real common and not just the occasional act I'd take the high road and file it under the cost of doing business. Karma is a cruel mistress and those people will get theirs someday.

  43. I'm planning to make some belt sheaths for various hatchets and small axes and I made this prototype for my Wetterling's #115 Hunter's Hatchet. I'm looking for some feedback on it, including suggestions for improving the design. It's made with heavyweight saddle leather has a filler along the blade edge. I'm thinking the belt loop on the back can be improved by sewing/riveting on a wider loop. Any other thoughts?

  46. Here is my super secret squirrel method for buying and selling stocks. It helps if you live near Chattanooga.   Once a week drive up I-24 and go past the Covenant Trucking dispatch yard. If there are a bunch of trucks sitting there sell. If the lot is empty buy. The trucks always park before a turn down gets noticed and they are among the first to get going when things are ready to pick back up.   It has worked better than any other tool I've found.   Mark
