  6. I would just buy one honestly. It would be hard to build one for any less and at least this way you only have one company to deal with if you need warranty work. Palmetto State isn't known for their exceptional customer service. I don't know anything about the DPMS, I know Primary Arms has this one as well. http://www.primaryarms.com/anderson-manufacturing-am15-with-fixed-front-sight-am15 I have no idea which one is the better rifle.

  11. Thanks for posting this, Randall53 and quietguy. I had been looking for a Tipton Best Vise and the best price I had found was $80. Got it at Cabela's for $60 and free shipping. Merry Christmas to me.

  13. About that Cabela's 9mm: Looks like they're sold out of the 115 gr and are now selling 124 gr. Was kinda hoping the 124 gr would pop up to help my decision.

  14. Also two of the most dangerous places I've ever been, Joburg and New River. lol

  15. Oh, I agree. SP (~12 weeks all total there) was no different than Moscow (~5 weeks), Johannesburg (~26 weeks), Memphis (1.5 days??), or ... my own back yard in New River. It does makes things worse when you don't speak the language (although I eventually learned New River)

  20. Excellent point Brasil. There's areas back in New Orleans I wouldn't go wearing body armor and carrying an AR...heck, there's places in nearly every town I simply wouldn't willingly walk into. I imagine most of us know to avoid those areas, or approach them if we have to with a sense of very heightened awareness. As to to shooting in the posted video. The BG chose not to engage when he met resistance from what I can see. Bad victim selection process on his part. It looks like the GG (Good Guy) didn't hesitate and fired around 8-10 torso shots into said BG. A CNS shot would have ended the foray much more quickly. IF the BG had starting shooting back, at that close distance, it wouldn't have turned out as well for the GG. Close, control, yada yada. Randy teaches some excellent techniques based on these scenarios actually. (Shameless plug for a great guy ) I'm not necessarily Monday Morning quarterbacking this, but it's remarkable the damage the human body can sustain and stay in the fight. That's good news (if it's one of us GG's that are shot...keep fighting). There's a huge mental aspect to it all... Working back in New Orleans one night, I had a guy drive up to the ER doors in a van. The driver had been shot 9 times, dude next to him 7 times, dude in the back seat DRT. Point is the driver had been shot before, removed himself and a couple of the guys from the foray and drove several miles to our ER. The driver knew from experience his wounds were survivable, he choose to carry on. He was a POS banger and drug dealer and lived to carry on his trade. He slipped out of the ER a couple of hours later, an ER full of police officers, while we were busy working on another fine citizen. It's a crazy world out there...wherever there is. Oh...and you might consider learning some med skilz as well...you know, Self Care and Buddy Care...just in case...

  21. You can shoot to 300 yards using a red dot. If you are wanting to see the holes at that distance I would suggest a spotting scope. Believe it or not but too much magnification can negatively affect group size.

  23. Here's the b.s. part of your argument. Do you seriously think these people give a damn whether or not they have a "right" to do something? If government is the answer, I don't like the question.

  25. This thread is proof that Elmer Fudd's still exist in the gun community. We need to be united in this fight to push for additional freedoms. The state should never have the right to "allow" us to exercise a constitutional right. Taking the TN drivers license test doesn't make someone a good driver any more than taking a carry permit class makes us responsible gun owners.

  27. Folks; I wanted to go ahead and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving as we head into the evening. This holiday some of you may be traveling. Others may be spending the weekend at home. Hopefully you find yourselves surrounded by people that you care about, whether they be friends, family, brothers in arms, or fellow emergency services crew. Whatever you're doing, I hope that you stay safe and have much to be thankful for. And since this is a firearms forum and since we think about and talk about things like this, if you are out and about this weekend... please be vigilant. As the saying goes, keep your head on a swivel if you are out at the movies, at the shopping malls, or anywhere else that there are large crowds. Watch what's going on around you and trust your instincts if something feels wrong or out of place. By all means, if you are able, carry your sidearm. And give serious thought to carrying some sort of personal first aid kit. If you've never considered the latter, maybe spend some time this weekend putting together something that would easily fit into a pocket, purse, satchel or backpack. Again, I hope you all stay safe and have time to reflect on the blessings in your own life. Hooray for the holidays and God bless. --David

  29. Sounds like you need to move back to New York. The guy who taught our carry permit class pointed a cocked and loaded 1911 at the entire class. You aren't going to fix stupid. Training is a great idea, but I don't find anything in the second amendment about a permit.

Thanks to Dave and all the moderators for keeping the place clean ( even for letting me stay). I am greatfull for everything I have, my family, my new granddaughter, my wonderful guns, and to be at my old age of 57. Life is good .... Bless you all.

  33. Found the non A1 this afternoon @ Shylock's Pawn shop in south Clinton. It's a genuine Colt 1911 with a 5 digit serial # , the last patent date is 1913 on the slide,it doesn't have the arched mainspring housing, does have the diminutive sights ,no duck bill web protector, etc., won't cost you anything but time & fuel to look @ it. Good Luck !

  34. I forgot one thing about the safe house that no one has mentioned yet. Let's say you spend $1,000 on a safe today and then 2 years from now you decide you need a bigger safe. Unless something has changed they will give you a full refund on the first safe towards the purchase of your next one. So if you want to jump to a $1,500 safe you will only be out $500 plus tax and delivery. I went in there thinking I would spend around $1,200 and I ended up buying 2 used safes for around $1,500 OTD. I bought a inexpensive but good used Cannon for $400 that I keep all my ammunition in. They had some good deals on used safes that people had traded in.

  35. I have mentioned in another thread I have hunted 1 week a year in central Wisconsin. This marks my 29th year and over the years I've taken a few corn fed does, 6, 7 and 8 point bucks but nothing massive. I have only hunted Wisconsin during archery season and I have not gun hunted for deer anywhere in about 15 years. Over the years I've seen many large Pope and Young bucks but nowhere in archery range. Like most everywhere else last week it was exceptionally warm but the bucks were chasing and I passed on many fork horns and and 6 point bucks early in the week. Then on the drive home we always beat ourselves up because by the end of the week we usually see fewer deer in archery range and and up with nothing. On the 5th day of hunting I had seen nothing all day long which just doesn't happen very often where I hunt. It had been a long day and I was ready to pack it up and climb down from the tree and as I looked to my right I saw what may be the buck of my lifetime dead down wind from me at about 30 yards. I knew he was going to wind me at any second and I was just going to enjoy the moment and watch him. He was smelling the air with his head up high and kept looking up in my direction as if he knew something wasn't right but not sure why. He then meandered to within 10 yards to my right and being a righty it was impossible to turn a draw on him without him knowing. He suddenly spun and trotted to where I first saw him and as he was moving away I turned and drew. He stopped and turned broadside at 32 yards and launched an arrow. I got a clean heart shot as he went 30 yards and expired.

  36. Not a great big deal to me. I would like to see it. But, I am well covered with a permit. And, adding car carry without a permit was real helpful to the masses. I'm certainly not worried about "blood flowing in the streets". Since the legislators feel that they have it covered already, I can see why they wouldn't want to risk any backlash.
